A few states such as Florida now acknowledge pharmacy technicians as professionals. The New York Board of Pharmacy plans to enter an official ruling to implement mandatory academic requirements for individuals wanting to become pharmacy technicians. When this law is passed, this will simply mean that New York will also consider and recognize the pharmacy technician career as a profession and will issue a license to eligible candidates.
Other states that have implemented similar laws and have issued rulings that enables candidates who have passed a national certification exam to be ‘grandfathered-in’, and hence, exempt from a lengthy course curriculum as long as two years.
