NFL MVP Race

I have followed the NFL since the middle 1980s. I am a Green Bay Packers fan and boy was it tough to be a Packers fan back then. You could expect two to four wins a year and any more than that was a blessing. Back then the Buccaneers and the Lions were wins you could almost always count on. The last 20 years have been a little more fun to be a Packers fan and this season especially has been enjoyable. I have composed the mid season MVP race and I feel you might be able to swap some players but Aaron Rodgers is the clear number one contender and it will be his to lose.

1. Aaron Rodgers is the most complete quarterback in the NFL. Leading the NFL in completion percentage with an amazing 71.5 and an NFL rating of 125.7 which is over twenty points better than Tom Brady. Rodgers touchdown to interception ratio is almost 3 to 1 and an NFL best. Two of the three interceptions could be considered the wide receivers fault as the ball bounced off the receiver’s hands and into the defenders grasp. Last year Aaron Rodgers didn’t even make the Pro-Bowl and it seems like the Super Bowl XLV MVP is out to make a statement this year. If he stays on this hot streak he and the Packers could be unstoppable. 2. Drew Brees leads the NFL in passing yards and has 1.9 touchdowns to 1 interception ratio. Brees has 353 more passing yards than the next player. He is second in the league to Aaron Rodgers in completion percentage with 70.6. Brees is fourth best in Passer rating with a very respectable 100.6. 3. Tom Brady is fourth in the NFL in passing yards and touchdowns. He has 33 completions of over twenty yards which is third in the NFL. Combine that with a 67.6% completion rating and over two to one touchdown to interception ratio and you have an elite quarterback. 4. Matt Forte is fifth in the NFL in rushing yards and has over 1000 yards from scrimmage averaging 155.9 yards a game. Forte is on pace to break Chris Johnson’s single season total yards from scrimmage record. Forte has also accounted for over 46% of the Bears offense. Forte has the chance to become only the third player in the NFL to gain over 1000 yards through the air and on the ground. 5. Calvin Johnson otherwise known as “Megatron” is just that. He destroys defensive backs on a weekly basis. He is ranked fourth in receptions with 47 and leads the league with eleven touchdowns. Johnson has a legitimate chance to break the single season T.D. record in which Randy Moss holds with 23.
