Our Jenna has a 2-ply crisis in this latest episode (1) She spots Mattie and another girl getting out his car and realized she can’t really be mad because she had previously agreed to the friends with benefits relationship and (2) She has a stalker, or does she? Ultimately the stress of having an unsatisfying relationship coupled with a perceived stalker will turn Jenna into the stalker instead of the victim.
Once she rounds up her fellow outcasts and gets a good look at the new girl in Mattie’s world she refers to her as the prettier, hotter version of herself…”Jenna PLUS.” She is instantly struck with feelings of jealousy, inadequacy and regret for not telling Mattie she did not want this type of relationship. The feelings only deepen when she tries to engage Mattie in conversation and he ditches their conversation quickly to buy the “Jenna PLUS” a sandwich. Jenna promptly goes off the deep end to prove whether they are a couple.
We then turn to her second crisis of the day – she has a stalker who walks around with a t-shirt that says “Jenna Lives” an obvious exploitation of her perceived suicide attempt. The two crises collide as she is trying to figure out what’s going on with Mattie and Jenna PLUS; she realizes everyone is wearing the t-shirts including her guidance counselor. The two problems mixing is just too much for our Jenna, she angrily confronts the stalker only to be embarrassed yet again and sent to detention. Of course not even detention could tear Jenna away from her torment as she is put in a room with Jenna PLUS and is angry to find out the girl is kind of cool and their Mattie stories are more aligned than she thought. She actually begins to like Jenna PLUS, which cannot be a good sign. At the end of yet another crappy day she runs into the real hero of the story, Jake. He listens to her problems, never judged her for her fake suicide attempt and seems to really like her but she still cannot see past Mattie… until he kisses her and she seems genuinely shocked…WAKE UP JENNA!
Jenna’s now confused…Mattie has a girlfriend, his best friend just kissed her and she finds out that Kyle (the stalker) is not actually a stalker, “Jenna Lives” really is the tribute band that he claimed it to be; until we, the audience, get a glimpse into his locker and find it to be a shrine to our Jenna. Just when Jenna thought she lost out on Mattie she finds out it was his brother Jenna PLUS was dating, not Mattie…we finally get a sort of happy ending for Jenna…there is hope for our girl yet.
