Mountain Rail Adventures in Elkins, West Virginia

Recently, this Yahoo Contributor rode on a Mountain Rail Adventures Train. Members of my family and I boarded the New Tygart Flyer in Elkins, West Virginia. The Elkins, West Virginia Train Depot is an old, historic brick building.

The New Tygart Flyer transports passengers across approximately fifty miles of West Virginia’s Cheat Mountain. During the four hour ride on the New Tygart Flyer, we passed through a S shaped tunnel and traveled beside beautiful streams near Shavers Fork which is a part of Cheat River. We spent a half hour enjoying the High Falls which are also a part of Cheat Mountain.

The four hour train ride was very relaxing. It gave my family members and myself a chance to just visit with one another. We also all enjoyed the opportunity to enjoy a different experienc together. Although the scenery was still green, it was beautiful. However, this Yahoo Contributor believes it would be gorgeous later in the Fall season once the leaves turned.

Another train that departs from the Elkins, West Virginia Depot is the Cheat Mountain Salamander. This train travels through approximately 90 miles of Cheat Mountain in West Virginia.

According to www.mountainrail.com, the Mountain Explorer, a murder mystery and dinner train, also uses the Elkins, West Virginia Depot.

Elkins, is a quaint town that resides in the mountains of West Virginia. It is an area that has ample areas to fish and camp. It would be a good Fall weekend area to visit.
