Dr. Conrad Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for the death of pop star Michael Jackson. For those of you living under a rock this happened in 2009.
Dr. Murray was the man who was treating Michael Jackson for extreme insomnia. He was using a very powerful anesthetic called Propofo l. This is normally only used in a hospital environment, in case there is a problem. Murray’s sentencing will take place on Nov 29th. He faces up to four years in prison and could lose his medical license. I’m surprised that he could lose his license. I’m truly that has one. I know courts take a while to get things moving, but I would think just using the drugs Dr. Murray used in the manner, he did would have gotten his license pulled immediately. It was reckless and dumb two things I never want my doctor to be.
During the trial, testimony came out that Murray gave Jackson intravenous doses the night of his death of lorazepam and midazolam both sedatives. Jackson also took valium that evening. All in an attempt to get some sleep. Finally, Murray gave him 25 mg of propofol, which seemed to work. Then Dr.Murray left the room for a few minutes and when he returned Mr. Jackson wasn’t breathing he died shortly after.
So that’s what happened then? Michael Jackson couldn’t sleep so he took piles of medications to get him to sleep. The prosecution made the Doctor out to be some kind of callus monster. The defense tried to blame Michael. The truth I’m sure is somewhere in between. Dr. Murray had former patients telling the Jury how great he was. So great that he allowed a patient to die through what can only be negligence, in my opinion. Who takes that much stuff to sleep and what doctor in their right mind would ever do something like that? I have a hard time getting a script for pain meds. Of course, I don’t pay my personal physician 150k a month either. I should say would have paid, apparently the contract was never signed so the good Dr. is out all that money now. He told police he was administering these medications. He didn’t hide it and its not really a murder charge is it, not really. Its negligence, also referred to as stupid it’s actually the smallest felony he could be charged with, public pressure for certain since it took eight months to charge him. The fact remains though that Michael Jackson is dead, because he couldn’t sleep, how very sad.
They had better pull his license for being an idiot. I wouldn’t have bought an actual murder charge in this case. Yes, he was an idiot doctor, who I’m certain was willing to do whatever Michael asked him to do for the money. I’m sure Dr. Murray cared about Michael like he said he did. He just didn’t care enough to say the word “NO!” So the world mourns the loss of a Pop Icon. Michael’s family mourns the loss of a loved one. The Doctor gets maybe four years in jail. It’s not justice. It’s bad theater.
