MAC Collections Review: Semi Precious

When it comes to makeup collections, MAC is always at the top of the makeup game. Out of most makeup brands in the world today, it seems as if MAC has been the most experimental and creative. The Semi Precious Collection, a collection by Mac Cosmetics, was introduced July 7, 2011, in the United States. A lot of the products introduced in this collection are mineral-based, as they are infused with real, bona fide semi precious gemstones. Recently, I had the opportunity to pry a little more into this semi precious gem inspired collection and discover whether or not it was actually a good collection.

First and foremost, MAC starts off the Semi Precious Collection presents Mineralized Eyeshadows. The Semi Precious Collection offers MAC’s Mineralized Eyeshadow in 12 different shades. These shades include Mineral Mode, Unsurpassable, Jade’s Fortune, Hint of Sapphire, Clarity, Golden Gaze, Faux Gold, Quartz Fusion, Rare Find, Blue Sheen, Dark Indulgence, and Smoked Ruby. When I went to the MAC counter to purchase Rare Find, I ended up purchasing Golden Gaze (which is a gold and black infused mineral eyeshadow shade) because it was stunning in person. Plus, the sales associate allowed me to try it on and the color payoff was simply amazing. The thing that I love about MAC’s eyeshadows is the fact that they incredibly pigmented and produce a color payoff that is simply amazing. I have been a huge fan since I tried my first eyeshadow several years ago. The Semi Precious Collection offers these mineralized eyeshadows for just $19.50, which can be purchased at your nearest MAC counter or on the official website, maccosmetics.com.

The Semi Precious Collection offers Mineralized Blush. I was kind of disappointed that to know that only three shades were being released, considering mineral blush has become ultimately popular in the beauty world. I must state, however; once I saw the blush shades in person, I truly understood why they did it. MAC’s Mineralized Blush is available in three shades. These shades include Pressed Amber, Warmth of Coral and Feeling Flush. Pressed Amber is more of your nude and beige shade, with a hint of brown. Warmth of Coral is more of your peach, your coral shade. Feeling Flush is more of your pink shade. Each shade is individually catered to the blush shade you are looking for and actually is great for every skin tone. You can purchase the Mineralized Blush at your nearest MAC retailer and of course, on the official website for just $23.

Mineralized Skinfinish has become one of MAC’s most popular products in modern times and with the Semi Precious Collection introducing four new shades, it was no exception. The four shades include Semi Precious Pearl, Semi Precious Crystal Pink, Semi Precious Rose Quartz, and Semi Precious Goldstone. Each Mineralized Skinfinish caters to an individual type of skin tone and works as a natural looking luminizing product. For just $28, you can purchase MAC’s Mineralized Skinfinish at your nearest MAC counter or at maccosmetics.com.

The year is 2011 and the collection is the Semi Precious Collection. With almost every collection that MAC has presented, they always introduce a new lipstick shade. MAC has managed to introduce not one, but four different new limited edition lipstick shades that cater to this particular collection. They include Lush Amber, Gem of Roses, One of a Kind, and Musky Amethyst. I have checked out all four of these shades at the MAC counter at the Tyson’s Corner Mall and I found that Light Amber was amazing in person, and it looked the best on me, as it was more of a light beige nude shade. MAC’s lipsticks are available for just $14.50.

Another lip product that I have grown fond of is definitely MAC’s Cremesheen Glass. The Semi Precious Collection has presented the public with five new cremesheen shades that are ultimately amazing and vary, but cater to just about every woman wanting to use the collection. The shades include: Pure Magnificence, Natural Flare, Geo Pink, Looks Like Sin, and Richly Revered. The Pure Magnificence was more like a nude shade than it was a neutral gray pink shade. I ended up purchasing that, as I ended up purchasing Natural Flare, which was a light warm nude shade. I love MAC’s Cremesheen Glass because it is not only long-lasting, it is extremely hydrating and pigmented and the formula is not sticky, so it is extremely wearable. You can purchase the Cremesheen Glass at your nearest MAC retailer or on the official website, maccosmetics.com for $18.50.

What I found most intriguing about this collection was the overall concept, but what made me even more interested was the idea that they introduced great products including the Mineralized Charged Water Revitalizing Energy for $22 and the Mineralized Face + Body Lotion for $29.50. The Mineralized Charged Water is a spray that you use to keep your makeup from making a mess. You basically spray this product on your face, once you are done applying your makeup. I actually have tried it and it is amazing stuff. The Mineralized Face + Body Lotion is a product that you can use on your face, as well as, body to keep your skin moisturized throughout the day. It is fortified with minerals. I was definitely impressed with the Mineralized Charged Water Revitalizing Energy. You can purchase both of these products at your nearest MAC counter or on the official website.

For the Semi Precious Collection, MAC has managed to launch four new brushes. The brushes include the 128 Split Fibre Cheek Brush, the 179 Angled Split Fibre Buffer Brush, the 234 Split Fibre Eye Blending Brush, and the 235 Split Fibre All Over Eye Brush. Each brush varies in price and can be purchased at your nearest MAC retailer or on the official website, maccosmetics.com.

Overall, I was very impressed with the Semi Precious Collection. I would recommend this collection to anyone who embraces the mineral concept or to anyone who simply enjoys great makeup for a decent price. You don’t have to be a Mac Cosmetics enthusiast to enjoy this collection.
