Life in America

It has recently come to my attention that there are many people throughout the world that are shocked to find that the people of America are not driving fancy cars and living a lavish lifestyle. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is true that many people in America are living lavishly, but I feel that I can safely say that the majority are not.

I have lived without health insurance for a long time in this country and I am paying the price of living in poverty because of it. Here in the United States, if you have a serious illness and do not have insurance coverage, your life may go from wealthy to poor in the blink of an eye. The incredibly expensive healthcare system will deplete any savings that you may have had in a very short time. It is my opinion that the healthcare situation in America is the shame of this country. A country who allows it’s war veterans to die on it’s streets has nothing to be proud of. I believe that our founding fathers would roll in their graves to see what is going here in this beautiful country that they worked so hard to establish. Greed has overcome any desire to do what is right for this country and it’s citizens.

Our government is broken. I believe that there are some major changes due in The United States. Our political leaders are bought and paid for by lobbyist who have their own agenda. Perhaps if our politicians weren’t allowed to accept money from private parties, they would focus on what is best for this country rather than what is best for their bank accounts. Our politicians are rich, while our citizens are losing their homes, dying without proper medical treatment, and struggling to put food on the table for their families. The government wants to cut our social security payments and medicare benefits, whereas the real cuts need to be in the salaries and benefits of our political leaders. Cutting the income of the people who are already poor would be a disgrace.

I am currently unemployed and have major medical issues to deal with. I am struggling with Diabetes, Crohn’s Disease, Fibromyalgia, Major Depression and back pain. I have no medication to take because I cannot afford a $200 doctor visit, and even if I could I would not have money to fill prescriptions. This is the reality of living in The United States of America. My feet are splitting open because of high blood sugar. I am exhausted and I live in considerable pain most of the time. A person cannot live and prosper in this country, in this situation. There is no aid. There is no help for someone like me who has so many medical problems to deal with. I am not able to receive medical help without having children in the home. If , however, I were to go out and get pregnant, the benefits would be thrown in my lap. Poor people in this country are forced to keep having children in order to survive when there are no jobs available.

I believe that our politicians should be paid a small salary, with increases in pay according to how well they have helped this country and/or their respective state. No other job will constantly give you raises no matter how good or bad you perform. Why should our government do this? We the people of this country should have to vote on the individual representative and decide if they are deserving of higher pay or not. Our founding fathers did not begin this process for riches. Our founders wanted to provide a wonderful , free land in which anyone could prosper but somewhere along the way that dream died.

I have lived a life of pain and suffering due to the lack of healthcare being available to me. I have gone from living a normal life with a nice house, swimming pool, kids and 2 cars, to living in severe poverty. Americans may be able to live a nice life here, but my point is that it can be taken from you in the blink of an eye due to circumstances beyond your control.

Greed has overcome this nation and it’s people are the ones who suffer for it. I pray for a better America in the future, but I am sure that it will be a long time coming.
