Less Than Ideal Features of the Panasonic HM-TA20 Digital Camcorder

The Panasonic HM-TA20 is known for its tough exterior, HD video and photo still capturing, Night View Mode and easy sharing features, but the Panasonic HM-TA20 also has quite a few features that you should watch out for.

No Weather Protection

The Panasonic HM-TA20 “rugged” digital camcorder prides itself on being a ruggedized digital camcorder that supports shockproof, waterproof, and dustproof features, but the Panasonic HM-TA20 lacks even the most basic weather protection features. The Panasonic HM-TA20 doesn’t protect against freeze damage, humidity, solar radiation, high and low temperature, and low pressure settings.

No Lens and LCD Protection

In addition to only providing basic protection features, for a camera that boasts having ruggedized features, the Panasonic HM-TA20’s lens and LCD screen are surprisingly unprotected. Both the screen and lens of the Panasonic HM-TA20 are left completely open to damage and although this camcorder claims to be shock proof, if direct contact is made with the lens or LCD display, they’ll be cracked for sure.

Poor Battery Life

Battery life is important for virtually and mobile gadget and the battery life of the Panasonic HM-TA20 leaves a lot to be desired. If you’re planning to record video with this camcorder, you’d better do it quickly because the Panasonic HM-TA20 is only equipped with a paltry battery that only supports up to 80 minutes before a recharge is required.

It’s a Bit Bulky

When compared to other ruggedized camera within the same price range, including the Samsung W200, Kodak Zi8, Kodak PlaySport, and other camcorders, the Panasonic HM-TA20 comes off as being a bit bulky and is less aesthetically pleasing than its closest competitors. To be fair, the Panasonic HM-TA20 doesn’t feel awkward when held, but its form factor isn’t as impressive as other camcorders within the same price range.

Price

Price will likely always be an important factor when selecting new gadgets – and will often be the most important deciding factor when selecting a gadget. The Panasonic HM-TA20 sells for a $199.99 retail price but due to its lacking features and close competitors having prices a lot lower than the HM-TA20, the $200 price tag of this camcorder seems a bit overpriced.
