Largest Employers in San Antonio, Texas

In these difficult times, finding a job can be a challenging process. While many employers are no longer being required to lay-off employees, they are also not being allowed to hire any additional help. San Antonio, Texas has been one bright spot in this dark economic time. According to many economists, Texas in general, and the southern part of the state, specifically, has survived the recession relatively well. It is of no surprise, then, that many of the largest employers in the city are still actively recruiting employees. The businesses in this article are not only some of the largest in San Antonio, but are also considered to be some of the best for individuals looking for work. Check them out today!

USAA

USAA, or the United States Automobile Association, is no doubt one of the largest employers in the city. Some estimates suggest that USAA employs over 30,000 people in San Antonio alone, with more located in satellite offices in Colorado Springs, Phoenix, and various other cities. While the majority of jobs available at USAA are for individuals with a business or finance background, information technologists, lawyers, and even nurses and other medical professionals are actively recruited. USAA is well-known for pushing their employees hard-but they are also said to pay them well for their time. USAA regularly provides their employees with year-end bonuses, and throws a huge Christmas party that many in the city would die to attend.

Toyota

Despite sky-high gas prices and disillusion with the automobile industry, the Toyota plan in San Antonio has fared relatively well. Many believe that this is partially due to the fact that the plant in question produces primarily Toyota Tundras, a type of large truck, which is a must-have for most native Texans. Like USAA employees, those at Toyota must work hard for their money, but are typically well compensated. The Toyota plant features many amenities for employees, such as a fitness center, day care, and even employee health clinic. Safety is a must at a facility such as this, and individuals are required to go through stringent training before being hired to make sure that they are healthy and strong enough to perform the job for which they are applying. A mistake or accident in this line of work can be dangerous not only for the person directly involved, but also for others who may be in the immediate vicinity.

HEB

Finally, the H.E. Butt Corporation, or HEB for short, is a thriving chain of grocery stores that has all but a monopoly on this sector of the economy in San Antonio. HEB not only has stores on nearly every block, but also operates a large manufacturing organization in the city, which produces much of the HEB brand food products. HEB owners are said to be especially focused on employee satisfaction-in fact, one report states that each time an employee is laid off, an owner or senior manager meets directly with both the individual who has been let go, as well as the manager who laid the employee off, to determine the reason behind the release. If there is not adequate evidence that termination is necessary, the employee may be immediately re-hired.
