Finally, the H.E. Butt Corporation, or HEB for short, is a thriving chain of grocery stores that has all but a monopoly on this sector of the economy in San Antonio. HEB not only has stores on nearly every block, but also operates a large manufacturing organization in the city, which produces much of the HEB brand food products. HEB owners are said to be especially focused on employee satisfaction-in fact, one report states that each time an employee is laid off, an owner or senior manager meets directly with both the individual who has been let go, as well as the manager who laid the employee off, to determine the reason behind the release.
