No matter how much you have to spend on having your nails done, and no matter which nail salon you prefer, there are just so many styles they offer. True, most salons offer dozens of designs on real or artificial nails and they are all exquisite. But there’s one thing those salons don’t offer – lace fingernails. That’s not something you see everyday but, once you see them, you’ll definitely love them. And you don’t need a salon to put them on for you. You can easily make your own lace nails and put them on without any trouble.
You don’t have to buy expensive lace by the yardage to create the lacy fingernails. Since the nails shapes aren’t too large, you can use lace trim to make the unusual fingernails. Lace trim is sold at fabric stores and available in various widths, colors, and styles. Choose ordinary black or white lace, or a more striking color of lace, like blue, yellow, or pink.
If you already have a set of fake nails – the type you glue on at home – those are great for making patterns for the lace nails. If you don’t have any it’s still very easy to make your own. If you have fake nails, lay one on the lace, and draw around it. Cut out the lace nails. If you have no pattern to go by, just cut a small piece of lace, lay it on a finger or thumb, and trim it down, a little at a time, until it is the right size. The lace can be applied to your real nails or to artificial nails.
Paint your fingernails as you normally would, with a coat or two of polish. If you’ve chosen a dark color of lace it’s recommended that you use a light color of nail polish. But if you’re using a light color of lace choose a dark color of polish.
While the nail polish is still wet, pick up the lace fingernail with tweezers, and position it on the nail. Do this to all the nails, slightly pressing down on the lace to secure it. When the polish is dry, paint the nails one more time, using clear topcoat.
The lacy fingernails are extremely unusual but really cool. You’ll really love all the attention you get as people ask you who did your nails. They’ll all be shocked when they find out that you made them yourself. To remove the lace, just pull it off of the nails and take off your polish as you always do. It might be necessary to use some of the polish remover to loosen the lace first. You’ll love the look of the lace fingernails so much that you’ll want to make them over and over again – in all different colors, of course.
