La Victoria Salsa Suprema Review

Homemade salsa beats many shop-bought varieties hands-down, as you can add your own ingredients and adjust the seasonings to suit your personal preference, rather than allow others to do it for you. But when you do not have time to make your own, using a good quality ready made salsa can make life easier. La Victoria Salsa Suprema is one such brand.

Price and Availability

It cost $3.98 for a 1.90kg (67 oz) jar of La Victoria Salsa Suprema from Food Maxx. I chose the medium brand so that I could enjoy the salsa without too much heat or “kick” to it. The salsa has a handle, and a plastic screw-top lid that is easier to open than most jar lids.

About Salsa Suprema

According to product details, La Victoria has been making authentic salsas since 1917. La Victoria Salsa Brava was the first salsa that was jarred and sold. La Victoria has expanded their line to include enchilada sauces, canned chillies, peppers and more. Salsa Suprema uses juicy tomatoes, Santa Fe chile peppers, and garlic to give the product its distinctive, authentic salsa taste.

Ingredients

Many shop-bought salsas are packed full of artificial ingredients and preservatives, but I was pleased to learn that there are no preservatives, MSG or other such ingredients. Instead, the main ingredients include tomatoes, tomato puree, Santa Fe chillies, modified corn starch, distilled vinegar, salt and garlic. This is a gluten-free product.

Nutrition Facts

Each 30g (2Tsp) serving of La Victoria Salsa Suprema contains 10 calories, 150mg sodium, 2g carbohydrates, 1g sugar and 6% of your daily vitamin C intake. This is a fat-free, cholesterol-free product.

Taste Test

La Victoria Salsa Suprema is just what I had been looking for. It had a rich, delicious tomato taste, and a good quantity of heat, without being too overpowering. It is quite a vinegary salsa, which you should keep in mind if you prefer to go easy on vinegar. But I found this a great tasting salsa as a dip and also in recipes that I added it to. I would gladly recommend this product.
