Keeping Your Passion Alive

No matter if your passion is art, music, inventing or being an entrepreneur most of us struggle with the constant setbacks in pursuing our given interest. How do you keep your enthusiasm alive when you are wrestling everyday just to keep your life balanced?

Find Your Own Pace

Practice patience with yourself. Every musician might aspire to be an Elton John or a Bach, or every inventor an Edison or Tesla, but you should develop your own pace for your own race without competing with others.

“A person who tries and fails is worth a million people who never try”, my father once told me. You should determine your own definition of success.

Do Things You Enjoy

I always wanted to be a writer. In my journey to my goal, I began a diary. I started my diary in 1967 and kept the practice of writing consistently in my notebooks; not every day but nearly so. In my journal I practice my writing skills without the prying eyes of an editor or critic. I formulate ideas for potential books, essays, research, inventions, drawings, and the list goes on.

Da Vinci was my inspiration. According to recent historians he compiled over 10,000 pages containing his sketches, inventions, painting ideas, math calculations and his research into fields of medicine, bionics, and oceanology to name a few.

Stay Informed

Educate yourself. I have a personal library of over 5,000 books on various subjects and whenever I get a chance I take classes. My wife and I take advantage of seminars, on-line classes, and classes offered by local colleges. Never stop learning. Learning about whatever you are interested in empowers you.

When I decided to enhance my scriptwriting skills I took classes at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). It enabled me to be better informed about film writing which led to the opportunity to write, produce and film the Barology series for Veltri Talent and Fleet Productions, a small production company outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Network with Like Minds

People who have same interests keep you motivated. As a real estate investor, it is extremely important for me to network with other entrepreneurs who face the same issues in this current marketplace.

Be Easy on Yourself

High expectations create disappointments. I had an opportunity to pitch a script to the vice-president of the Disney Channel. When the deal fell through, I was so distraught that I wasn’t writing anything for a several weeks. I didn’t sell my script. Even though the director who worked with Disney and my producer liked it, Disney didn’t like it.

After my moping period, I decided I was a winner after all. I didn’t get the deal, but I got the opportunity and I took full advantage of it.

The passions that you pursue might not give you the million dollar payoff, but have fun with them. Do not beat yourself over your failures, embrace them. Passions are your joys, your fulfillment, embrace them with gusto.
