How to Earn Tons of Caps in “Fallout”

Bottle Caps are the main form of currency found in the “Fallout” game franchise and are used in-game much as paper money is used in the real world. Both “Fallout 3″ and “Fallout: New Vegas” use Caps as the primary form of money, though “New Vegas” does have secondary forms used less frequently. Caps are traded with merchants to purchase weapons, ammunition, Stimpacks, water, food and other necessities in the Post-Apocalyptic Fallout universe. Though Caps are essential to succeed in the game, they are often frustrating to obtain, especially when you first begin playing. Earning tons of caps early on will make it easier to purchase upgraded weapons, ammunition and supplies for more difficult missions later in the game. Here are some easy ways to earn tons of caps in “Fallout 3″ and “Fallout: New Vegas.”

Cap Farming

Cap farming is perhaps the easiest way to earn caps quickly in the Fallout universe, especially when you first begin playing and have not had a chance to level up to fight against difficult enemies or embark on challenging quests. Search every building you encounter for metal boxes, cash registers, dressers, desks, lockers and other containers. Containers nearly always contain items that can be sold for Caps to both traveling and in-city merchants. Pre-war clothing items, pre-war money, tin cans, milk bottles, food items, pencils, scrap metal, scorched books, cups, forks and plungers are just a few examples of items found frequently in both “Fallout 3″ and “Fallout: New Vegas.” While these items are worth only a few Caps, they are lightweight, so you can easily stock up on them to sell. These items are also non-essential, and most cannot be used for any other purpose. Start farming Caps from containers right when you begin playing to load up on Caps easily.

Raid Corpses

Search the body of every enemy you defeat for items that can be sold. This is similar to cap farming from containers, but will require you to engage in combat. Animals will have a variety of items in their inventory, including meat, claws and venom glands. Raiders, mutants and other humanoid enemies will have armor, guns, ammunition, and aid in their inventory. All of the items can either be consumed/used by you or sold to earn Caps. Take anything that can be sold to merchants throughout the Capital and Mojave Wastelands. As you level up, this is the easiest way to earn Caps as you become stronger. Simply empty out your inventory at a safe house, wear lightweight armor and set out to fight and defeat any enemy you encounter. Fill your inventory and sell everything you take.

Complete Speech Checks

When starting most missions, a speech check is usually available through the person giving you the mission. Oftentimes, a speech check will enable you to bargain the Cap reward for completing the mission. Try to talk every person who gives you a mission into raising the reward through completing a speech check successfully.

Consume Nuka-Cola

Nuka-Cola is a Pre-war soda found commonly in the Fallout game universe. Every bottle of Nuka-Cola has a bottle cap. When you pick up bottles of Nuka-Cola throughout your travels, be sure to drink them. This will cause you to regain hit points and will add one Cap to your inventory for every bottle you consume. Be aware, however, that drinking Nuka-Cola will also raise your RAD levels, so be sure to take RAD-AWAY to prevent you from dying from radiation exposure.
