How to Clean Burned Tomato Soup Out of Pot

Whether you’ve accidentally burned your tomato soup while cooking or forgotten to empty out the remaining soup and let it sit for hours you’re left with stains in the pot. Fortunately there are multiple ways to remove the burned on soup left behind. You’ll need to do some hard scrubbing but with some assistance from various cleaning solutions, the stain will be no longer.

Rinse out the pot. Pour some dish detergent in the pot. Fill the pot with hot water. Let the pot soak for a few minutes.

Drain most of the hot water out of the pot. Wet the brillo pad or sponge and apply some detergent. Add some warm water to the pot.

Scrub the inside of the pot with the brillo or sponge until the burned soup is gone. Thouroughly rinse the pot and dry. If the burned soup remains, proceed to Step 4.

Add baking soda and some vinegar to the pot. Add enough vinegar to cover the bottom of the inside of the pot. Fill the pot most of the way with hot water. Let it soak for a few minutes.

Drain most of the water. Add some more vinegar and baking soda. Fill about halfway with warm water.

Scrub the soup stains with the scouring pad or sponge. Be sure to soak the brillo or sponge in the vinegar/baking soda water while scrubbing. Continue until the stain is removed. Add more vinegar/baking soda as needed.

Repeat these steps as needed until the burned soup is gone. Rinse and dry when complete.

Consider allowing the pot to soak in either water with detergent or vinegar/baking soda for longer periods of time if the stain persists before scrubbing clean.

If the burned soup is stuck in a pan or dish that has a non-stick coating use a soft and smooth sponge. Do not use brillo pads or rough sponges on non-stick coated wares.
