How to Blow Out Real Eggs for Easter Decorating

There is a delicate art to decorating real egg shells for decorating. This is a fun, inexpensive project that can be completed by anyone who has a bit of patience and a gentle touch. Hollow egg shells can be used in a variety of ways. They can be decoupage, painted or even cut out using a rotary cutting tool if you have a steady enough hand!

Age Group: Older Children, Teens, Adults

Time for Project: 5 – 10 minutes with overnight drying time

You will need:

· Chicken Eggs · A thick sewing needle or thin finishing nail · A small bowl

Step One:

Take the egg out of the refrigerator for 20 minutes. Eggs that are not cold will blow out with less effort.

Step Two:

On the smaller, pointy side, poke a small hole using the needle or the thin finishing nail. Move very slowly while poking the hole to reduce the amount of cracking.

Step Three:

On the wider, bottom side, poke a wider hole using the needle or the thin finishing nail. Again, move very slowly wile poking the hole to reduce the amount of cracking.

Step Four:

Allow the yolk to settle on the bottom. Use the nail or needle to pierce the yolk.

Step Five:

Hold the egg over the bowl. Place your lips on the smaller hole on the top of the egg and gently blow air. The egg white and yolk should come out into the bowl. Continue gently blowing until the egg white and yolk has completely come out of the egg shell.

Step Six:

Rinse with water. Allow some water to get into the egg then plug both holes with gentle pressure with your fingers. Jostle lightly. Drain the water. Place upright to allow the egg to dry completely overnight.

The egg is now ready for painting, decoupage or even carving!
