Homemade Sparkling Stepping Stone Directions

Homemade stepping stones make ideal additions to anyone’s garden or walkway. They also make attractive displays in a home when placed on a picture stand. Stepping stones placed outside must be at least 1 ½-inches thick while those used as a display only need a thickness of ¾-inches.

Decorate a homemade sparkling stepping stone with colored glass, marbles, decorative stones or costume jewelry. My favorite is costume jewelry due to the glimmer of the stones along with the gold or silver settings. Make sure to collect an adequate amount of sparkling items prior to making the stepping stone.

Things You’ll Need:

Stepping stone mold – aluminum pans work the best
Plastic wrap
Sparkling items
Quickrete
Water
Mixing container

Directions:

Step 1 – Place the stepping stone mold on a solid, flat work surface. Line the inside of the mold with plastic wrap to help with removal.

Step 2 – Mix an adequate amount of Quickrete in a mixing container. Follow the instructions on the bag for mixing. If for some reason you do not mix enough, just mix more as needed.

Step 3 – Pour the Quickrete into the stepping stone mold. Allow the Quickrete to set for 5 minutes.

Step 4 – Place the first sparkling item in the Quickrete. Watch to make sure it does not sink. If it does, allow the Quickrete to sit for another 5 minutes. If the item stays in place, continue with the sparkly design.

Step 5 – Place the completed stepping stone in a safe, warm location to dry. Allow the completed stepping stone to dry for 48 hours before removal.

Make a colored stepping stone by adding cement coloring or colored grout to the mixture. Note that only the dark colored grout will work to color the Quickrete.
