Homeless Ones

I met two groups today,

I am no greater then they,

And they no greater

Than you or I.

I was filled with sadness,

And felt compassion

For the one we see as less.

They were as young as me,

And old as grandpa.

They were black,

And they were white.

One group seemed humble,

And tired of life.

The other was joyful,

Passing a guitar around.

They turned their bad luck,

Into a time of praise!

Down on their luck,

But waiting for the Lord.

They sleep on the ground,

And no place to shower.

They have no family,

And have no job.

They have no money,

Yet they are rich!

They have each other,

And most of all –

God’s in their heart!

At first I saw sadness,

But before I left,

I saw happiness and joy!

I saw rays of hope,

And I saw God within!

The deprived will believe,

The rich will lust.

The poor thank God,

The rich condemn.
