Haunted Places of Oregon

Hot Lake Hotel-
The Hot Lake Hotel was built in the early 1900s where it started out as a holiday retreat. In 1934, a large portion of the hotel was burned down. After it was rebuilt, it was used as a hotel, a mental hospital then a rest home in the 1970s. There have been reports of footsteps in the hallways, doors opening and shutting on their own, a ghost playing piano, as well as the scariest feature of all; a chair that will move itself back to the window of the upstairs room regardless of where it is placed in the building. The chair never has settled dust on it either. Reports of screams and laughter being heard together as well as finding wet blood on the doorknobs have been made.

The Falcon Apartments-
There is two spirits of previous tenants that roam the hallways, have been seen in the manager’s office and next to the mailboxes. The ghosts are said to belong to Mr. Cooke, an older gentleman that always looked out for and fixed the mailboxes. James, the other apparition did not want to die alone. Mr. Cooke died in 1989 and is often seen where his chair used to sit, watching the mailboxes. James is often seen wondering the hallways of the apartment complex; the two have never been seen together.

Knight Hall-
The hall currently holds the music department for the university, but once used to be a private three story home. Once the home was converted for the university, a ghost named Vera could be seen singing in the hallways and playing the piano. The sighting was confirmed in 1979 when a group of reporters came to the hall and one sat down at the piano and started tapping keys. Vera appeared to him and asked him to “please stop.”

Elgin Opera House-
The opera house is haunted by two men that were killed during a duel on the front steps during the late 1800s. Many claim to see them while driving by.

Our Little Store-
In Elgin, there is a place called Our Little Store that is haunted by a little girl. She has been seen attempting to remove chips from the shelves and there are always various bags of chips found on the isle floor.

Candy Cane Park-
A woman was murdered in this park during the early 1900s. She used to haunt the carousel until it was moved in the 1980s. Now she has been seen swinging and sitting on the benches.

Nyssa Underpass Near the Sugar Factory-
Underneath the underpass you can see figures lined up along the walls as well as a 7 foot tall apparition with no feet and red eyes. They can only be seen when you look at them from the corner of your eye, never directly. They can be seen any time after dark and are said to be people that have died on the bridge.

Eastern Oregon Correctional Institute-
This facility used to be a mental hospital. Any time a person is walking down the halls, you can hear screams for help coming from the pipes.

Wallowa Lake Park-
Employees of the park lodge there refuse to go in the basement alone. They say that a feeling of dread washes over them while down there and there have been several reports by various people of the feel of fingers in their hair has been reported. Crying in the corners of the basement has also been heard.
