Speaking at a Congressional Black Caucus “to do” in Miami, Indiana Democrat Congressman Andre Carson let rip with a giant mouthful of hate at the Tea Party :
“Some of them in Congress right now of this tea party movement would love to see you and me … hanging on a tree.” The CBC’s chief vote counter said . “[They would] love to see us as second-class citizens.”
Contending that it is the Tea Party Republicans in Congress who are somehow standing in the way of changes, Carson compared the Republican desire to strive for fiscal sanity to: “The effort that we’re seeing of Jim Crow.”
Carson’s spokesman, Jason Tomcsi , later buttressed his boss’s remarks, saying they were “in response to frustration voiced by many in Miami and in his district in Indianapolis regarding Congress’s inability to bolster the economy.”
So how does he figure that the Tea Party is responsible for the state of the economy? The Democrats have had exclusive control of the economy since Obama took over, haven’t they? Sure, the Tea Party surge in 2010 gave the Republicans a (slim) majority in the House, but they still hold sway in the Senate – and, of course, at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue – and are in complete control of the purse-strings.
Some two-and-a- half years into the “Great Recession” of their own making, African-American Democrats are now blaming the Tea Party? And calling them ” a lynch mob “?
Carson’s jumbled syntax and blatant racism aside, his comments display a level of ignorance (or denial) of the causes of that recession that stagger the imagination. How one so obviously bereft of common sense and common knowledge could attain a position of power in America is shameful, and for his to be the voice of the CBC in this matter, shows the true intent of that organization.
The Tea Party doesn’t want to “see you hanging on a tree” Congressman … they just want to see you “hang it up.” And the sooner the better, for all of us – black, brown, red, yellow and white.
