Halloween Devil Horns

With Halloween fast approaching it’s time to give consideration to this year’s costume. Thinking something devilish? Something scary yet easy to make? How about devil horns? You can wear them with any number of costumes and they’re really simple to make. The devil horns can be worn with just a cape, a complete devil outfit, and other costumes.

Devil horns take a little bit of time to make but, once you have them, you can wear them year after year. And, they’re not hard to make; the process just takes some time. You have to work in steps, let things dry, and go on to the next step, so allow 24 hours to complete the project. Start by purchasing molding clay at a craft store. Even if you’ve never worked with molding clay you’ll find that you can make the devil horns without any problems.

Work and mold the clay to make two, same-size cone shapes. These can be any size you want but devil horns are not usually really long. Shape the two cones then tap the bottoms of them on a flat surface to ensure the cone bottoms are perfectly flat. Bend the tips of the horns over to curl them. Follow the instructions on the package for the amount of time to allow the clay to dry.

The devil horns can be red or black. Paint them with acrylic paint; it might take more than one coat. After the paint is dry apply a thin layer of white glue on the horn and sprinkle glitter on it. Do one side, and then the other, until both horns are covered in glitter.

Use a headband to hold the devils horns in place. A narrow headband – about 3/8″ wide or so – is ideal. Use hot glue to attach the horns to the headband. Position the horns so that they face each other and so that they’re spaced evenly on the headband. The horns should be in an area on the headband so that they are positioned right above the eyes.

The devil horns are perfect for a devil costume, of course, but can be worn with other costumes, too. Once the clay has dried and the horns are painted they’re very hard and durable. Put them away for next year; you’ll love the look of the horns so much that you’ll want to wear them every Halloween.
