It’s fun to make various things with old Scrabble tiles but they’re just so small. Perfect for making bracelets, key rings, or even desk plaques, the small tiles are fine for small projects. But if you’d like to do a large wall accent, you’ll need tiles that are much bigger. And, you’ll find those very easy to make. Take a quick trip to your nearest craft department and you’ll spend very little money to get what you need to make giant Scrabble tiles. After that, you can use them in many ways to create wall accents around the house.
Craft foam is ideal to make a look-alike Scrabble tile. The foam is thin, though, so you’ll need more than one piece to make each tile. Purchase the foam in red or tan to make just the Scrabble tiles you desire. Although actual Scrabble tiles come in red or tan colors, you can actually make your jumbo tiles any color you want.
Stack and glue several pieces of 12″x12″ craft foam together until you achieve the thickness you want for the tile. White glue works perfectly to affix the foam pieces to each other.
After the glue has dried you can go on to decorate the tile. Use a black marker for red, tan, or another color of tile. A paint marker is the ideal selection for creating the letter since it contains real paint. Use a stencil to make a capital letter in the center of the tile.
When it comes to decorating with the giant tiles you’ll find many different ways to use them. Make a single tile and attach it to a cornice as a monogram. Or, spell out your child’s name on his or her bedroom wall. You can even make a simplistic crossword-style arrangement for a child. Spell out words related to things the child likes, like cars. You can spell out various car names, or words related to cars, like “gas”, “travel”, or “engine”.
For a nursery, you can use the jumbo Scrabble tiles to create wall accents with a baby theme. In the kitchen, use the tiles to spell out food words or other kitchen-related words, on a wall.
There are no limits to the various ways you can use the jumbo Scrabble tiles when you use double-sided tape to hang them. However you use them, you’ll find that the tile(s) adds a unique and fun aspect to most any room of the house.
