Giant Pumpkin Party Hamburger

Are you expecting a large crowd for a Halloween party this year? You’ll have a lot to do to get ready for the get-together, including cleaning, decorating, and preparing special foods. Yes, the crowd will be hungry and they’ll expect foods with a Halloween theme. However, you don’t necessarily have to fix edible fingers and eyeballs to serve foods that have a Halloween theme. Just fix a giant pumpkin hamburger and you’ll feed the crowd while wowing them at the same time.

Use a pumpkin to make a giant bun for the food arrangement. Cut the stalk down as far as possible then cut the pumpkin from the top to the bottom, right through the center. Where the stalk and the bottom indentations are, cut these off, keeping close to the stalk or bottom indentation so that you don’t remove huge chunks of the pumpkin. Scrape out the insides of the pumpkin then wash and dry a small handful of the seeds.

Cut pieces of wooden skewers and use them to separate the two pumpkin halves. Lift up the top half, then position the skewers way in the back, so that you have a clamshell effect. Push the skewers into the bottom half and then push the top half down until the bun is about halfway open. Keep in mind that the areas that used to have the stalk and the bottom indentation are now the sides of the bun.

With the “bun” propped open, use double-sided tape or even hot glue to attach some of the seeds on the top of the bun. Then, cover a circle of cardboard with wax paper and lay it on the bottom half of the bun.

Fry or otherwise prepare the hamburgers and lay them on the cardboard. Cover them each with cheese, if you want. Position the burgers so that you can no longer see the cardboard circle. Lay lettuce and slices of tomato on the burgers and, the way you arrange it all, you should create the impression that it’s one large burger. Serve condiments on the side and guests can just take a burger, lettuce, and tomato off of the bun.

Maybe you’d rather not have hamburgers. If that’s the case, you can make the giant bun hold whatever you want. Ham and cheese, assorted lunchmeats and cheeses, or other sandwich makings. Your guests will get a kick out of the giant hamburger or other sandwich bun; it’s perfect for feeding a large crowd on Halloween.
