Fall and Winter Entertaining: Candy Apple Bar for an Apple-themed Party

We are taking our godchildren to pick apples this fall and I have been trying to figure out what I will do with that many apples (I know each of them will want to pick as many apples that day as possible). I recalled a party I attended last fall that had a Candy Apple Bar for the children. It was so popular with the adults that the hostess had to scramble to find more apples for the adults. Therefore, my friend and I will be hosting an apple-themed dinner to celebrate the fall season and will include an Apple Candy Bar as the main dessert selection. Since I do not cook, I am in charge of apple-themed decorations and the Apple Candy Bar.

Apples are plentiful during the fall and make a beautiful theme for a later afternoon to early evening dinner party. I like to combine them with pumpkins and colorful leaves to usher in cooler nights and crisp mornings.

· Apple invitations – There are so many great websites to get invitations that the choices seem endless. I chose a candy apple invitation specifically to tie into the candy apple bar. A close second was the fall harvest invitation that could incorporate the candy apple bar in the section above the apple. · Place cards – You can make simple apple place cards by writing names on card stock, cutting a slit in an apple and securing the card in the slit. You can also use plain gift tags to write guests’ names, tie a ribbon through the hole and pin or tape the card to the apple. If you want to tie in the fall season, glue mini red apples onto fall leaves and place at each setting with a place card. · Centerpieces – Mini pumpkins, gourds, fall leaves and various nuts arranged in the center of tables are great centerpieces. For a more elegant centerpiece, use a bubble bowl filled with apples and fresh fall flowers. · Candy Apple Bar – After I finished the invitations, place cards and centerpieces, I was able to concentrate on my favorite part of our fall dinner party. For the Candy Apple Bar, I chose fresh, ripe apples – – both sweet apples and tart apples. The other items needed for the bar are candy apple sticks, melted chocolate, melted caramel and various toppings. Use your imagination to make your Apple Candy Bar festive. For example, I used red apple containers to hold the toppings for the apples (small chopped nuts, candy bits, coconut, etc.) and inexpensive apple baskets told hold the apples for dipping. Do not forget to have plates or bowls for guests to place their dipped apples because some guests will have so many toppings on the apples that the toppings will fall off before they can even take the first bite.

At the end of the evening, everyone had enjoyed our apple-themed dinner party but the most talked about part of the evening was the Apple Candy Bar.
