Decorating Ideas for a Rockabilly Themed Nursery

The 1950s are perhaps one of the most iconic decades of American history, and the pop culture of that time continues to be popular today. If you are seeking a fun and unique theme for your baby’s nursery, a rockabilly nursery is a great idea to consider. From Sailor Jerry inspired linens to old Elvis Presley vinyls on the wall, here are some ideas to help you get started on decorating your baby’s rockabilly themed nursery.

Colors and Patterns

I highly recommend choosing a color and pattern scheme to decorate your rockabilly nursery, as this will make the room look coordinated and well put together. Some color ideas to consider are black, red and white, pink and white or mint green and baby pink. All of these color schemes are popularly associated with the 1950s, making them perfect for adding to your rockabilly nursery. As for prints/patterns; leopard, zebra or polkadots are all appropriate options.

Sailor Jerry/Ed Hardy Linens

Rockabilly fashion often incorporates the more “Greaser”esque motifs of the 1950s, including Sailor Jerry and Ed Hardy tattoos. Baby blankets, curtains and pillows featuring the tattoo prints of these iconic artists are great for incorporating into your baby’s rockabilly nursery. Sparrows, nautical stars, anchors, skulls and cherries are all part of the Sailor Jerry/Ed Hardy style.

Sparrow Baby Mobile

In keeping with the tattoo inspired linens, a sparrow mobile is a great decorative addition to put in your rockabilly nursery. You can make your own using small stuffed animal sparrows or paper sparrows hung from fishing line on a circular piece of wire above the crib. You may also be able to find a sparrow mobile online through an Etsy seller or an Ebay auction.

Vinyl Record Wall Decor

Decorate the walls of the nursery with some vintage vinyls. Old vinyls from the 1950s are super easy to find at thrift and antique stores inexpensively, and since the vinyls will simply hang on the wall they don’t need to be in perfect condition. You can hang the vinyls using wire plate holders or double sided tape.

1950s Posters and Signs

Posters or tin signs of 1950s music artists or products are perfect for jazzing up the walls of your nursery. You can find authentic 50s posters and tins at thrift and antique stores, or you can buy modern replicas at home decor stores or online at memorabilia sites or online auctions.
