December 17 – 18, 2011: ‘Dashing Through the Snow’ Weekend at Windham Mountain

What better way to celebrate Christmas and winter than dressing up as Santa and skiing down a hill all in the name of charity? December 17 – 18 is one big festive celebration known as Dashing Through the Snow Weekend at Windham Mountain. It starts on Saturday, December 17 with the Catskill Mountain Series Giant Slalom and Rail Jam taking place and the band Finding Reason playing at Legends Bar & Grill from 3pm – 6pm.

On Sunday, December 18 the fun gets kicked up a notch with a bunch of skiing Santas. If you’ve been thinking about skiing at least once this winter, this is the day to do it. Think about it – where else would you get to dress up as Santa and ski with about 300 other Santas? If you don’t want to dress up or ski, at least go watch – it’s like playing “Where’s Waldo?” on the ski slope. There is a requested minimum donation of $10, which goes to the food pantry at Hope Restoration Church. Anyone dressed in a full Santa outfit gets one free ski ticket for the day and two extra mid-week vouchers. Registration is open, but you need to sign up ahead of time. Everyone will meet at 10am for a group picture followed by a group ride. The event is only a couple of weeks away, so you’ll be Ho Ho Hoing your way down the slopes in no time.

It gives me great joy and amusement to think about all the people who will be doing double-takes at the slew of Santas traveling to Windham Mountain via car, bus or train to get to the event. Speaking of which, Windham Mountain has plenty of detailed information on their site for how to get there by whatever mode of transportation you choose and whether you’re staying local, driving in or you’re heading up from NYC. If you’re coming in from out of town and need somewhere to sleep, there are several places at which you can stay. Should you have any more questions, feel free to contact them.

Windham Mountain is located in the Catskill Mountains in New York. They opened in 1960 and offer a variety of activities other than skiing including tubing, snowboarding and ice skating.
