DC Entertainment Officially Unveils New Company Logo

After weeks of speculation and rumors DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. officially reveals the company’s new logo that embodies the DC Comics’ brands and characters across all media platforms.

The new logo for DC Entertainment reflects the modern era for the company and the success of DC Comics – The New 52, the publishing company’s 52 ongoing comic books that have reinvented and updated popular characters such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and other super heroes. Since these characters have been re-designed for the modern audience DC Entertainment felt the timing was appropriate to revamp the company’s brand identity to coincide with the superheroes’ new look.

DC Entertainment worked with Landor Associates, one of the world’s leading brand consulting and design firms, to develop an identity that creates a visual connection among the company, its three brands DC Comics, Vertigo and MAD and its vast array of properties as well as celebrates the power of the company’s stories and characters. The design of the new DC Entertainment identity uses a “peel” effect – the D is strategically placed over the C with the upper right-hand portion of the D peeling back to unveil the hidden C – symbolizing the duality of the iconic characters that are present within DC Entertainment’s portfolio.

Nicolas Aparicio, Executive Creative Director at Landor’s San Francisco office, explains that “the new identity is built for the digital age, and can easily be animated and customized to take full advantage of the interactivity offered across all media platforms.” What this means is the “revealing” logo can be adapted with different colors and elements to represent DC Entertainment and its affiliates. For example, the company has released character themed logos: The Flash, Superman, Batman, and Green Lantern, and a Watchmen inspired logo, which is predicted to fuel speculation about an unconfirmed Watchmen prequel comic book project.

In addition, the Fast Company confirms “digital devices (computers, tablets, smartphones, touch-screen displays, gaming consoles) will enable users to peel back the “D” to expose a character, image, or story. The “C” can be customized to the colors and qualities of the property it’s promoting,” visit here to read the full article.

The new company logo will appear on comic books, trade backs and graphic novels, and new websites beginning in March. Consumers can expect to see the new brand identity to appear on other DC Entertainment products from Warner Bros.
