Creative Gift-wrap–Recycled Paint Can

Sometimes I get tired of the stack of boxes under the Christmas tree and wish for some fun and unusual gift packages. This year, I stained my deck and had two empty cans left when I was done. I held onto them, thinking they might come in handy for something.

By the time the holidays came, I knew exactly how I would use them. I cleaned the stain from the cans using mineral spirits and paper towels. I paid special attention to the ridge in which the lid will sit, as stain tends to collect in these areas. I still detected a strong odor in the cans, so I wrapped a few tablespoons of baking soda in a paper towel, creating a small packet. This I left in the can for a few days until the smell was gone.

I purchased several Christmas sticker sets from my favorite place in the world to shop, Hobby Lobby. I found them in the scrapbook section.

I made sure the cans were clean and dry. Then I applied the stickers in pretty patterns on the cans. I wrapped ribbons, lace, and rickrack on the handles. You could apply whatever type of ribbon or bow you might like to the handles.

I found that DVD’s fit perfectly in the paint cans. No one is going to be able to guess what is in this present!
