Costume Attachments: Arm Tubing Attached to Blood Bag

When you put together a costume for Halloween or any other occasion there may come a time when you want to obtain the look of a person who has blood being drained from their arm into a bag. You can visually see an image in your mind’s eye if you picture someone who is in pajamas and a robe walking around dragging a machine from which a bag hangs filled with medicine or blood as a tube runs into the person’s arm taped on to help hold in place and hide the needle.

You can always wear pajamas, a robe and house shoes as a stand alone costume but it may lack that pop or something that changes the perception of it in a way other than the time and where it is worn. A blood bag attached to your arm will make people take a second glance. They might begin to wonder whether you are actually wearing a costume.

The bag that you will use to put the fake blood in should be see through. A sandwich bag will work but you should steer clear of large freezer bags or bags that are too big to be believable. A larger bag would work however if you are going to put the bag in your robe pocket so that it will be easier to carry around. In this case the bag should be big enough that it pokes at least halfway out of your pocket so that it can be seen.

Since a sandwich bag or a freezer bag may have words on it you’ll need to hide the words from onlookers. All you’ll have to do for this is to tape over them with a piece of masking tape and scribble a blood type on the tape. For instance, you might jot down O Negative or AB Positive on the tape. Now you’ll need to fill your bag with blood. All you need is ketchup to do this. You can fill the bag halfway or all the way up.

Next you’ll need a piece of plastic see through tubing. You may be able to find a piece of tubing in a medical supplies store, fish supplies or a hardware store. Use the masking tape to tape the tubing onto the blood bag. So that it looks like blood is running through the tubing into the bag squirt ketchup into the tubing from the open end. All that’s left to do is to attach the bag to your arm in a position where blood is usually drawn. Again use the masking tape to tape the tubing to your arm. Do a final check to make sure all the tape is secure so that everything will hold together.

Hold the blood bag in your hand or place it in the pocket of your robe.
