Christmas in Atlanta

On Thanksgiving evening a tradition is to go and see the Christmas tree lighting at Lenox Square Mall. A childhood friend of mine took her teenage daughter this year on the train, up town to see it for the first time. I grew up seeing this every year as a child.

Phipps Plaza—Santa, Beautiful Christmas Trees, and Breakfast at Tiffany’s

So every year when I was a small child my parents would take me to the Santa at Phipps Plaza. He looked surprisingly real. I saw him again just the other day while shopping and it is exactly the same. They officially have the best Santa in Atlanta. The trees and decorations took my breath away. This is family picture taking central. Browse the windows at Tiffany’s and make your Christmas list now. Get down to Phipps Plaza now.

The Fox Theater:

How the Grinch Stole Christmas comes to the Fox starting December 1st. Take the kids; take your parents, girlfriends etc. It is fun for all. To follow this The Atlanta Ballet will be performing the Nutcracker the very next week after the Grinch http://www.foxtheatre.org. My friend with small children read the Grinch book to her children before taking them to the musical.

A Christmas Carol comes to the Alliance Theater

Back for its 22nd smash year, the most heartwarming story of the entire season comes to life with Ebenezer Scrooge’s discovery of the true meaning of Christmas over the course of one fateful evening. Journey through the beloved Dickens tale meeting favorite characters along the way like the generous Mr. Fezziwig, the selfless and beautiful Belle and the adorable Tiny Tim. And with a new-this-season surprise – all we can tell you is you might want to warm up your singing voice before you arrive.

Cavalia is returning to Atlanta

I almost ran off the highway seeing the giant tent getting constructed downtown. This show is like the Cirque De Soliel for horses and the horse lover. The show opens December 7 and performances are scheduled through to January 8, 2012. Check for tickets at ticketmaster.com

The Pink Pig

If you have children don’t miss the Pink Pig. It debuted at Rich’s department Store in 1953 and has been making Atlantan’s smile for 55 years since. Now the Pink Pig Ride is in a big white tent in the Macy’s Department Store lot. It has been an Atlanta tradition for so long you absolutely must take your little kids to see it at least once.

My husband and I went to see the lights in Atlantic Station last year. We walked through the station after our showing of Cirque de Soliel. Atlanta has no shortage of Christmas lights so get out there now and visit all of the malls and neighborhoods.
