Christmas Events in the Houston Bay Area

There is something about the southeast Texas Gulf coast that makes people want to do the holidays up big! There is something for everyone this year from Clear Lake to Galveston!

Clear Lake City is the home of the Bay Area Houston Ballet and Theater, which will host “Breakfast with the Sugar Plum Fairy” on Saturday, November 19. Breakfast starts at 8:00 am at League City’s South Shore Harbour Resort & Conference Center, and features the very same Sugar Plum Fairy who will dance in The Nutcracker this year!

Performances of Bay Area Houston Ballet and Theater’s The Nutcracker will be held the first two weekends in December at UHCL Bayou Theatre, 2700 Bay Area Blvd, Houston, TX 77058. Call 281-480-1617 or visit bahbt.org for more information about the breakfast and the ballet.

Just a little further down the road, in League City, neighbors are gearing up for Holiday in the Park. This annual holiday celebration occurs the first weekend in December, starting at 5:00 pm on Thursday, December 1 at the Helen Hall Library’s Holiday Open House. Santa visits the library every year and welcomes each child to sit on his knee. Adults are welcome to take free photos of their children with Santa using their personal cameras. Visit leaguecitylibrary.org for more information.

League City’s “Holiday in the Park” starts the next day, and features caroling, hand bells, parades and a festival. Visit holidayinthepark.org for the complete schedule.

Christmas in Kemah, Texas kicks off at 6:00 pm November 18, with the “Christmas in Kemah Open House” at the Kemah Visitor Center- which will also host a costumed Pet Parade at 2:00 pm on December 3. However, everyone knows the biggest part of a Kemah Christmas is the 50th Annual Christmas Boat Lane Parade, at dusk on the Kemah Boardwalk. Visit Kemah.net for more information about all of Kemah’s holiday events.

Finally, Galveston’s annual Dickens on the Strand festival includes sixteen different events- from formal dinners to lantern-lit parades to the “Victorian Bed Races.” Visit dickensonthestrand.org or call the Galveston Historical Foundation at (888)305-7627.

It is going to be a very busy- yet very beautiful- season. Clear Lake City, League City, Kemah, and Galveston welcome all of our friends and neighbors to the North to come experience coastal holiday traditions!
