Buffalo Bills Fan Reacts to Ongoing Rumors About Losing Team to Another City

Stepping into the Buffalo Bills Backers of Brandon’s home turf at an Irish pub, you’d never guess you were hundreds of miles away from Ralph Wilson Stadium.

The joyous tailgates feature Buffalo favorites like hot wings, pizza and Beef and Weck, and when the Bills score, the whole bar erupts into singing, flag waving and the general jeering of time-honored football fandom. Still, far removed from the bitter cold of Buffalo winters, this loyal following resides in sunny Florida and brings together hundreds of wayward Bills fans every game day.

The founder of the Buffalo Bills Backers of Brandon, MaryLou DeMarco, remembers her first game at War Memorial Stadium, known to fans as “The Rock Pile”. She was 8 years old and her dad had to pay some kids to watch the car. More than that, DeMarco remembers her first game at the new and improved Ralph Wilson Stadium.

DeMarco rattles off historic Bills moments from Ralph Wilson Stadium with ease, citing the enthusiasm and extensive football knowledge inherent to every Bills fan.

Still, while fans in Florida may have found a home with the Buffalo Bills Backers of Brandon, the team itself faces an uncertain fate regarding their future stadium.

Rumors of getting scooped up by another city have been plaguing the Bills fans for years. While the team pushes for improvements to Ralph Wilson Stadium , other cities, like Toronto and Los Angeles, have ideas of their own.

For example, Anschutz Entertainment Group of Los Angeles plans to complete a football stadium in 2016 and have their eyes on the Buffalo Bills -a small market team with an aging owner.

“I don’t know what we would do without [the Bills],” DeMarco says. “For the city to move or lose the team, that would be absolutely devastating. The rumors have been going for so long that I’m not sure. It’s scary to hear.”
