March 2, 2010 marked the day that the original Associated Content published two million pieces of Content on its online publishing platform. This was quite an accomplishment, considering the company was just a shade over five years old. I tried to capture the excitement in the air with this article: Associated Content Publishes Two Million Page Views.
However, life for Associated Content was about to undergo a dramatic change. On May 18, 2010 Yahoo! published the following: Yahoo! To Acquire Associated Content. I began covering the story on May 19, 2010 with this piece: Associated Content Served Yahoo Style. It went on to be five part series.
This marked the beginning of the end of Associated Content’s identity as a small privately held company. Soon it would suckle at the bosom of its new adopted mother, Yahoo! As time unfolded it became clear that Yahoo! was intent on rearing a large family of online content provider sites. Yahoo! created the Yahoo! Contributors Network. Y!CN, as it is often referred, is family of sites that procures and publishes online content. Yahoo! News, Yahoo! Finance, Yahoo! Sports!, Shine and omg! are among the more notable sites on the network. Associated Content took its place among its siblings and was given the new name, Associated Content from Yahoo! It is considered the digital library of the family.
Today is August 31, 2010 and as of this writing the published online content counter on associatedcontent.com reads 2,999,973. Therefore, it appears likely that is article will be correct in proclaiming today as the day that Associated Content from Yahoo! publishes its three millionth piece of online content. Perhaps this article itself will serve as the magical number three million piece of online Associated Content, now served Yahoo! style.As of now, its just too close to call.
