A Review of Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Homestyle Dinner

I am a mac and cheese fan, so when I spotted Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Homestyle Dinner in the macaroni and cheese section of my local favorite grocery store, I could not resist it. I decided to buy this dinner kit, try it out and write a product review all about the experience. Here is what I discovered!

This kit costs a bit over two dollars. It serves four. You will need milk and butter to prepare it. You also will want a half cup of shredded Parmesan cheese, if you choose the oven cooking method. This dinner comes with twisted elbow macaroni, Alfredo Parmesan cheese sauce, seasoning mix and Parmesan cheese topping. I boiled the pasta, drained it and set it aside. I then poured the cheese sauce into a pan, cooked on low heat, stirred, added butter and seasoning mix, stirred, blended the milk in slowly and cooked until the sauce was bubbly and it had thickened. Now, I had to make a choice. You mix all ingredients together and serve or choose the oven baking method to finish the dish off. I decided on the oven baking method. I mixed the pasta in with the sauce, poured it into a large casserole dish, sprinkled the top with the Parmesan cheese topping. I also added some shredded mozzarella cheese over the top. I baked at 425 degrees for ten minutes, until the cheese had melted. This dish looked good! I could not wait to taste it!

When I tasted Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Homestyle Dinner, I loved it. It is delicious and very cheesy. Just not cheddar cheese cheesy. It has Parmesan, Romano and Monterey Jack cheeses in it. If you add mozzarella cheese to it, like I did, it really becomes cheesy. That is a good thing. This dish gives a new twist to mac and cheese. I dubbed it my cheddarless mac and cheese. All that tried this dish in my home loved it. Different and exciting. And a shock to those that are used to having cheddar cheese style mac and cheese. The Alfredo Parmesan sauce really makes this dish special, with it’s rich creaminess. I rate this dinner four stars out of five stars. I will be buying it again, but it does take some time to make it the right way. It is worth it.

One serving unprepared, has 270 calories and 70 of those calories are from fat. One serving has 8 grams of total fat, 2.5 grams of saturated fat, 15 mg’s of cholesterol, 680 mg’s of sodium, 39 grams of total carbs, 1 gram of dietary fiber, 2 grams of sugars and 11 grams of protein. These are unprepared values. They do increase when you add milk, butter and extra cheese. I use two percent milk and low fat butter. I also use reduced fat mozzarella cheese. This dinner is an excellent source of calcium. It does contain milk and wheat ingredients.

I loved trying Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Homestyle Dinner and writing this product review all about it. It is a favorite dish of many of my friends. It is rich, yummy and satisfying. The twisted elbow macaroni is a fun touch that makes this mac and cheese very creative. It stands out on the dinner table. And it does not last long. This one is a winner. Just don’t expect plain old regular mac and cheese. I love it!
