5 Bridesmaid Dilemmas and How to Deal With Them

Being a bride isn’t easy. You have to deal with florists, photographers, and wedding planners. Although most brides-to-be expect the people in their bridal party to be supportive, you may find yourself dealing with an uncooperative bridesmaid as well. Here are five common bridesmaid dilemmas and tips on how to deal with them.

The Unsatisfied Bridesmaid

If your bridesmaid complains about everything involving your wedding, it may make life easier to compromise when you can. If she really hates the bridesmaid dress that you are thinking about choosing, consider using her and the other girls’ input when making your final decision. If your bridesmaid is continuously unreasonable, try explaining that it is your wedding and that you will do things her way when it’s time for her to get married.

The Fighting Bridesmaids

If two or more of your bridesmaids aren’t getting along, it can be difficult to not get caught in the middle. The best thing that you can do in this situation is gently remind them that you have chosen each of them because they are all important to you and that you would appreciate it if they could make an effort to get along. If this doesn’t work, try to make it so that they only have to communicate with each other as little as possible.

The Pregnant Bridesmaid

Babies are a blessing, but it may not feel like it when your bridesmaid is pregnant. You may need to choose a maternity dress for her and deal with the more complicated problem — the bachelorette party. Consider a party that doesn’t involve alcohol, such as a beach getaway or spa weekend. If you’re unwilling to change your bachelorette party plans, don’t be offended if your pregnant bridesmaid doesn’t come.

The Broke Bridesmaid

If one of your bridesmaids is constantly complaining about not being able to afford the wedding, there are a few things to keep in mind. For starters, don’t go outrageous. Choose a bridesmaid dress, shoes, hotel rooms, etc. that are reasonably priced so that the cost isn’t too burdensome. If your bridesmaid is still unable to afford it, loan her money if you can. There’s only so much you can do in this situation, however.

The Wannabe Bridesmaid

At some point, someone who you aren’t planning to incorporate in your bridal party may suggest that they want to be in it. This can lead to a very awkward situation. Don’t say anything about it unless it’s brought up again. If it is, explain that you’ve decided to limit the bridal party to close friends only.

These are just a few of the many dilemmas that you may encounter with your bridesmaids. The most important thing is to keep your cool. Chances are that a difficult bridesmaid could be jealous that you’re getting married instead of her or afraid that things will change between you once you do get married.
