2012 is Real Easy when the Alternatives Are Palin, Bachmann, or Perry

Who better to interview on Labor Day Sunday in recognition of working people’s contribution to society than James Phillip Hoffa, General President of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. He is also the son of the infamous Jimmy Hoffa, who served as the union’s General President from 1958 to 1971.

On Sunday, in an interview with CNN’s Candy Crowley, Hoffa severely criticized American companies who don’t spend their money in the good old USA. He said American companies have a responsibility to put Americans back to work. Companies like Apple who employ workers in China and Honda who plans to build a plant in Mexico instead of here and put Americans to work are unpatriotic. American businesses, who sell their products in the United States, have an obligation to put Americans back to work. “I think the president should challenge the patriotism of these American corporations that are sitting on the sidelines”

In the State of the Union interview, Hoffa gave his opinion that American companies can do it here, but they need to have the right incentives to encourage them to stay and spend their money in the United States. Even with the high cost of labor and healthcare, as well as environmental regulations in the United States, he believed it is still possible for companies to be successful here.

On Thursday, September 8, President Obama will unveil his new jobs proposal in a nationally televised address to Congress. The White House said the President would lay out a series of steps that Congress could act upon, including transportation infrastructure initiatives, practices to help homeowners, and tax breaks to support new worker hires. His plan, which will not be supported by republicans, nevertheless could set the agenda in Washington over the coming months.

Hoffa said that the President’s Job plan must lay out a “bold plan” that challenges businesses and America to create jobs. We need a WPA type of program, a work program created under the 1935 New Deal for the unemployed, to rebuild America and her infrastructure. He said everyone has to get in the game. Everyone asks, “What is Obama going to do” instead of what are we going to do. Financial institutions, Corporations, Republicans, Democrats, and every American need to get into the game and play their role, and “encouraging them to do so should be part of President Barack Obama’s jobs plan.”

Hoffa emphasized, Folks like Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachmann, and Rick Perry are not for working people and are anti-union.

“When the alternatives are Sarah Palin [who has not announced her candidacy] and Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry, it makes it real easy to make a decision,” and so Hoffa said he will support the president in 2012.
