10 Easy Steps to Build a Snowman

Every year the winter season brings excitement for the holidays, presents, and of course, snow! Many activities can be done in the snow and one of the top favorites for friends and the whole family is building a snowman. Make the process of building a snowman easier this year with these simple and helpful steps.

Step One: First gather snow and pack it together. Make sure that the snow isn’t too fluffy or too icy as this can make it harder to build a snowman. Also, be sure to avoid leaves, rocks, and dirt as this can make the snow dirty causing the appearance of the snowman to seem odd.

Step Two: Begin rolling the packed snow into a ball. This will have to be started close to the ground but as more and more snow is gathered the size of the snowball will increase. Be sure to stop from time to time and smooth off any edges of the ‘giant snowball’ that aren’t spherical.

Step Three: Once satisfied with the bottom portion of the snowman, flatten the top so that the middle portion of the snowman can be placed upon it. Do not flatten too much as this can also throw off the balance of the snowman.

Step Four: Repeat step two but do not use as quite as much snow. This will be placed on top of the bottom portion of the snowman in order to create the appearance of the middle portion of the snowman. Once satisfied with the amount of snow that has been gathered, lightly smooth out one side of the it and place that side directly on the flat side of the other snowball.

Step Five: Repeat step two again but on an even smaller scale as this will be the snowman’s head. Smooth lightly on one side and place it on top of the middle portion of the snowman. Once this is done all sections of the snowman are now complete.

Step Six: Closely examine the three portions of gathered snow making sure that no leaves, dirt, or rocks have been mixed in with it. While doing this, it is also okay to lightly smooth out the surface of each portion so that the snowman can have a better appearance.

Step Seven: Either search through the house or search through the woods and collect objects that will represent arms, clothing, face, and other unique props. Remember that a snowman is can represent any character and that there are thousands of different ideas to choose from on how to decorate a snowman.

Step Eight: Once the objects have been gathered begin placing them gently onto the snowman. Be sure to use step stools for the little ones so that the snowman is not accidentally knocked over.

Step Nine: Reinforce sections of the snowman if necessary. If the snowman looks slightly off balanced after the objects have been added to represent his character, than apply snow where it is needed. This will help the snowman last longer and to stand longer as well.

Step Ten: After the snowman is complete spray water around and on the snowman with any type of spray bottle. This will form a thin layer of ice on the outside of the snowman that will help freeze it ensuring that it is solid. Also spray the ground around the snowman with water so that a small layer of ice can form to prevent vandals from kicking the snowman over.
