Ugh, this is becoming unbearable… Rubber bands for braces?
Q: I had the worse orthodontist appointment of my life today. Did so much to my teeth and now my face is so swollen that I look like a chipmunk. The only thing that is keeping me going right now is that my orthodontist said I have one more appointment and the one after that is when I will get my braces off. He said I had to get my wisdom teeth out first (they are impacted and sideways-ish… that’ll be fun). So, I really want to try to wear the bands that they gave me all the time like I am suppose to so I can get these braces off already. Do the bands ever stop hurting or feeling uncomfortable completely? I have taken Motrin twice today and it isn’t helping. Is there anything else I can do?And just another thing I was confused about, my orthodontist said that they might take an impression of my teeth next time I’m there, before I get my braces off. Aren’t you suppose to get an impression done after?
A: Yepp. If you keep wearing the bands, they wont hurt anymore, just like braces in general. As long as you remember. If you wear them a lot, but then forget to, It’ll be like starting over cause they’ll hurt again. The bands aren’t bad to me at all, I just have a hard time remembering to wear them. And they might be taking an impression before so they can make sure everything’s okay before they go ahead and take them off.
Braces…do you know whether this is normal?
Q: So i got braces 4 weeks ago, and my teeth hurt for the first few days then stopped(I know this is normal) but now they hurt again. I have had a wire in since day 1, and it has moved over to the left on both the top and bottom. It has moved over so much, that I have had to get it cut 2 times, and now, it isn’t even through my back right molars bracket. I am going to go to the orthodontist asap but I am in new york on vacation right now. Also, I have about 1/3 an inch of wire sticking out on the left top and I got it trimmed not 2 days ago, but the friday before that. How will they fix it? Will they put a whole new wire in, even though I go in for a tightening in 2 weeks when they will change my wire anyway, or what? Please answer if you have any clue.I know that they change the wire every 6 weeks at tightenings, but would they really change it even though I go 2 weeks for a tightening? I am kinda nervous about going in to get it fixed.
A: well since 4.2 americans have braces, about .8 americans have your problem. stop messing around with the braces. youll have to get ur teeth spaced out more, and a new wire.
I’m getting my braces taken off?
Q: Tomorrow I’m getting my braces removed and you know when you first get braces the orthodontist shows you pictures of what happens to peoples teeth when they don’t clean them properly and they’re all brown, well I was wondering how bad do you have to be for that to happen? Is it only in extreme cases when you don’t brush them at all? I don’t think mine will be like that, but I just worry. And how long does it take to get them off, if I’m getting a mold done aswell? And does it hurt because once one of my brace thingys came off because I brushed it too hard and when my orthadontist was scraping the glue off it was a little bit sore, does it get worse and is there any way to stop it from hurting?
A: Your mouth will be sore for a few days, there’s really no way to avoid that. Take an ibuprofen before you go in, and take one three times a day for a few days to help with the soreness. Unfortunately, there isn’t a pain-free way to get braces off. It’s certainly not excruciating, but it’s not comfortable either. Just think about how great you’ll feel with them off and how it’s all worth it. The staining thing shouldn’t be too bad if you brushed at least once a day and avoided tons of dark soda pop. I only took average care of mine when I had them, and I didn’t have any problems.
