I was diagonsed with dysfunctional uterine bleeding and only prescribed doxcycline for an infection too.?
Q: I was diagnosed with dysfunctional uterine bleeding and only prescribed doxcycline for an infection along with the dysfunctional uterine bleeding. I need to know what will happen now and if I should ask them if I need a D and C and any other forms of treatment. I assume that in the ER, they would’ve gave me something, but I am still extremely exhausted and in severe pain with cramping. I sometimes have clear discharge that pours out and spotting of brownish blood. What will happen now with this diagnoses and what should I consult with my doctor about?
A: I hope that, when you were discharged from the ER, they gave you a copy of the labs that were done there and some notes from the visit there that you could take to your own ob-gyn for follow up. If not, you can call the medical records/health information dept. of the hospital where you were seen and have them fax the info. to whomever you’re seeing for follow-up. When you call to make an appt. with your physician, request a “test of cure” which is just a a culture to verify that the antibiotic cleared whatever infection was present.. Then describe to them all the bleeding and pain, and other symptoms you’ve had. There will be some other diagnostic tests done(blood work, ultrasound, possibly an endometrial biopsy) so that a proper diagnosis and treatment plan can be made. Sounds like you need to move forward with this soon since you’re still not feeling well. Take care.

Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding?
Q: I have a vaginal ultrasound and a biopsy scheduled for later this month. I have had a period for over a month now- not heavy but continuous. Went to the dr. yesterday and although I was given the term, DUB, it seems very general to me and anything I look up online doesn’t really describe whats happening. She did say she doesn’t know what the cause is and I would rather hear that and be in limbo for the next month or so rather than ‘it’s a fluke period, here’s birth control’ A little more info.: Had a baby 6 mths ago, my husband had a visectomy(sp?) and 2 or 3 normal periods after the “sperm free” from his dr. Thansk for whatever help you can provide!
