What does heavy bleeding after sex during pregnancy mean?
Q: My boyfriend and I had sex twice last night. After the first time, there was no blood/spotting that I noticed. We did it again maybe an hour later, but this time, I was bleeding heavily (similar to menstrual bleeding). Everything that I have read on says that it’s normal if it’s just spotting, but what about excessive bleeding? This morning I noticed that there was still blood coming out. I am about a month in. Is there any chance that this could be normal?
A: No, that doesn’t sound normal. Heavy bleeding is a sign of miscarriage. You may want to call your doctor or go to the emergency room and get checked out.
Should a blood clot during pregnancy be considered a high risk?
Q: I had a blood clot early in pregnancy, about @ 11 weeks. I had to be put on blood rest for a week until the clot went away. TMI ~ I had so much blood that I woke up covered in it, it was so much that I thought I was miscarrying. When I went to my doc I was told I had a “pretty big” clot near the placenta in the uterus. When I asked about blood thinners I was told there was no reason for them. I went into labor @ 23 weeks and according to my doctor at the time it was because I had bleeding so early on and through my 2nd trimester. When I went to a high risk specialist I was told I can possibly have a clotting disorder, which means that my blood clots too much. If this is the case, what happened to me was that the blood wasn’t going from the uterus wall to the placenta; it was just clotting and staying in the uterus which caused my uterus to start contracting. My question is, when I started bleeding early on and they saw, through ultrasound, that it was a big clot why wasn’t I put on thinners? Why wasn’t I tested for the disorder sooner? How common is bleeding early on that they didn’t even attempt to test me? Do you think, legally, that my doctor was wrong? This was my first pregnancy and I had no idea what to expect but as a professional, shouldn’t she have known?
A: Hi. I had a similar situation. I was preg. with twin and was bleeding very heavily during my preg. and an ultrasound confirmed a clot in one of the placentas. I was considered high risk but I was not put on blood thinners or put on bed rest until my water broke in my 4th month. My girls were stillborn at a little over 19 weeks. I believe your doc should have considered u high risk, without a doubt. I was told my a nurse that also happened to the work in the funeral home that my doc should have told me when they found the clot that my girls wouldn’t make it. I was never tested for any sort of clotting disorders and none of my docs mentioned it. I am very sorry you had this experience.
What does it mean to have bloody mucus during the 9th month of pregnancy?
Q: Okay so today I am 37w5d. The other day the doctor checked to see if I was dilated. I was 2 cm dilated. Later that night there was bloody mucus after I went to the bathroom. Now I haven’t had blood with any of my other examination nor after having sex and all the doc did was insert her finger so I think its unlikely that the bloody mucus came because of that I mean Ive had other exams and sex like I said ..nothing…I’m just confused because even today I’m still having either red, brown or orange colored mucus (Sorry if TMI ! ) The docs always say there could be “Spotting” but this definitely was not spotting. Has anyone else got this when they were almost 38w? I thought it was my mucus plug but again I’m not exactly sure and my water has not broke yet nor am I having horrible contractions yet so I mean is it something to definitely call the doctor about? Or am I just paranoid?
A: Sounds like your mucus plug to me.Your baby’s full term. It would be perfectly normal for you to go into labour right now. There’s absolutely no need to call the doctor – just mention it next time you see her.
