At what point in a dog’s “heat” is the best time to put her with the male?
Q: My female is 15 mo old and is in her 2nd heat. The “couple” were together for a few days last week with no success. She is now in the bleeding stage of her heat. I have the couple together again but they doesn’t seem as interested in each other as they did last week. Am I too late? (pureblood dogs, health checks on both, wanting family pets for friends and family- no money involved)
A: You need to wait until she’s exactly 33 days from the last day you saw blood and then put the male in with her. You don’t want to put him in before or she could reaallllyyy hurt him!Anyone else noticing these folks are trying to sound reputable by thinking that just because they’re breeding for family and friends and not charging anything that that makes it ok?O
Is this unusual in a dog’s heat cycle? URGENT?
Q: My dog is in the first stage of the Heat Cycle, and her first Heat! Since she got in Heat, she has been sulking, needing to go pee more (like ALOT), drips blood on the floors, beds, and the couches. the two things that bother me are: Isn’t she suppose to want to get to a male dog? All the warnings I’ve been getting are: Keep her in, she’ll never come back, she’ll find a boy and come back pregnant, boy dogs will come to your house! So far, all of these things are false to my dog. Since she got in heat, she has been walking perfectly on the leash! No straining to get to the other dogs! And the second things is when she sleeps. Now, she has been more cuddly and takin’ up all the room in the bed! It’s almost as if she cant sleep by herself! And when she does sleep, she clicks/rubs her teeth together, like making a “click click” sound or something. And she breathes heavier than ever sometimes. And I know that she is not pregnant. She has not gotten loose and ran off yet. What is wrong?!!She has a best friend who is Spayed (a girl doggy) and so I took her over to her house on Monday, and Kaia (my dog) was humping her! She never humped any human, just that dog!Do dogs know if you are a girl or not? My dog has been wanting more attention from my brothers!Maybe she does sleep in my bed…She has no where else to sleep! We got her a big bed for Christmas, so I guess when Christmas comes (if she chooses) she can sleep on her new bed!
A: She’s too early in her cycle to want to breed yet. When the bleeding slows down, which can take anywhere from 10-21 days, THEN she will want to breed and the males will come around.edit-Humping is not sexual, it is dominance, and yes dominant females wil hump other dogs. Males do it more because they are more likely to be dominant. It’s a dog’s way of telling the other dog, quite literally, “I’m above you”. That’s why spoiled little dogs hump their owners’ legs, they think they are the ones in charge.
