RE-POST: Question about D & C?
Q: (Skip to last paragraph to avoid my sad little rantings…I re-posted to get an answer to my question).I cannot even explain how devastated I am.I went to get my 12-week ultrasound yesterday, feeling great about my pregnancy. I was taking excellent care of myself, exercising, eating well, taking vitamins, etc. I was starting to “show,” my uterus expanded into my upper abdominal cavity, people said my skin had the “Pregnancy Glow.” I was still having symptoms, like round ligament pain, tender breasts, growing pains in my uterus, etc. It definitely felt (feels) like my pregnancy is progressing normally.I had just told EVERYBODY that we were pregnant because I was in my 12th week and, apparently, in the safe-zone.This was an unplanned-wanted pregnancy. We had just gotten used to the idea that in early May, we would be a family of three. We bought tons of pregnancy books, yellow and green baby clothes, I had a nice foundation to my maternity wardrobe, we were picking out names from a book. We shifted away from fear and into excitement! We were elated and our relationship was stronger than it has ever been.Everything felt like it was on right track until yesterday. Our hearts just dropped when we saw that screen with an empty little sac. I’ve never felt so empty. It’s like the world around me just went quiet.I am in my 12th week and have had no signs of a miscarriage. No spotting, no cramps, no nothing. My question is this: I have never had a D&C and I have one scheduled for tomorrow at 11:45 am. Can anyone share with me their experiences? What do they do? What does it feel like? Can I return to work that day? The following day? How long does it take for your body to get back on track? Menstruation? Ovulation? I’m a little scared. Thanks in advance for everyone’s thoughtful answers.
A: I’m so sorry for your loss. That’s called a blighted ovum and I had the exact same thing happen to me at 9 weeks over the summer. Only, I had my three young kids and husband there with me. We were all upset to see that empty sac. It hurts. A lot. As for the D&C, they will likely use general anesthesia so you’ll be asleep. I wouldn’t go back to work that day if I were you. I would give it several days. I felt normal again by Monday and had mine done on a Thursday afternoon. The discomfort afterward is minimal as is the bleeding. Nothing more than a period. I also got my period back three weeks later (they say 4-6 weeks is average) and ovulated 11-12 days after the start of my period, so almost 5 weeks later. We’re pregnant again now-10 weeks- and have seen a perfectly healthy baby. My doctor told me that the blighted ovum is rare and isn’t likely to happen again. Thankfully, it didn’t for me this time.Good luck. I know I felt a lot better when the d&c was done. It gave me a sense of closure for the situation. Let us know how you’re feeling then.
Blighted ovum on ultrasound?

I’m a little scared. Thanks in advance for everyone’s thoughtful answers.I mean that I had a big, dark empty sac. No baby, nothing inside of it. I don’t think a baby could sustain life without being inside of it’s gestational sac?mkm… I have been doing research since I posted this and I have already canceled my d&c. I just have a feeling that they are wrong! Even as I type this, my uterus has light, gentle cramp-like growing pains… I think they could be wrong. Thanks for the encouragement.
A: I saw something like this on the discovery health channel. A couple was told the same thing and so a D&C was scheduled. The woman was in disbelief b/c she too felt like it was a normal pregnancy. She had begun to show, felt morning sickness all of the effects of pregnancy. Well on the day of the D&C she made them do a repeat ultrasound and sure enough the doctors were wrong. She was carrying a healthy fetus!! Hopefully you to were just misdiagnosed!! Have them do a repeat scan before the surgery!!! I am deeply sorry for what you and your husband are experiencing!!! My prayers are with you both!!!
Last period was Sept 1-4,09 no period since taken many epts all neg.can i be pregnant?has this happen to you?
Q: last period i had was Sept 1-4th 2009. i barely bled and had little cramps. i’ve taken many ept tests. all negative but i’ve read SO many stories of woman being pregnant and even took blood tests and they were pregnant and the tests came out negative even 5,6 months into a a pregnancy.i’ve had no cramps,no spotting, absolutely no signs of a period. can i be pregnant?? i am trying to get pregnant and has been trying since the beginning of Dec 2009.i’ve gain weight. back pain. i feel gas bubbles all the time and i’ve had friends said it could be a baby kicking but i figure if it was a baby that means the baby should be a good enough size and i should get a positive test..and if i’m not pregnant in your opinion what do you think is wrong with me? i’m 19 never had regular periods before but if i missed a period it usually is only 1 month and i got my period the next month i’ve never gone about 5 months without a period..HELP!!!ive been to the doctor taken 2 blood tests.. taken tests for diebeites,iron..thyroid.. everything.i did start bc in July for less then a month skipped August and started the period in Sept..
A: have u seen ur doc about this? there is a number of things that can be stopping ur peroid.cud be if ur streesed.if the gas bubbles get more and more then u shud see about getting a scan as a girl i went to school with was pregnant but no1 new not even her she felt what she thought was gas wen it was a baby moving. she went home from school early with back pains and 5 hrs later she gave birth no1 could believe it coz she didnt look pregnant and after she had the baby she told me she had missed all her peroids but coz the test was neg she thought it was due to stress.go and see ur doc and if he says no ur not pregnant just coz u got a neg result make him do a blood test and even get him to feel around ur tummy and u can even push him to put the wee machine that finds the babys heartbeat.good luck and i hope u get the result u wanttake care
