I also had normal periods, right on time every month for almost 5 whole months…until they suddenly stopped. thats when i went to the dr. and she told me i was 5 months along already. A: As long as a woman is having periods and ovulating, she can become pregnant if her tubes are open. If she has had a tubal ligation, she will to have her tubes repaired through tubal reversal surgery. For women who come to see Dr. Gary Berger at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center, pregnancy rates are around 50% for women age 40 – 41. More importantly, tubal reversal surgery would provide an opportunity for pregnancy to occur naturally at any time where now she has no chance for a pregnancy. So even if pregnancy rates are somewhat lower at 41 than they would have been at 31, there will be a chance for pregnancy to occur once the tubes have been repaired.http://www.tubal-reversal.net/

A: 1. Normally one does not get pregnant when the tubes have already been ligated. It is a very rare chance that the tubes or one of them gets reunited and therefore a pregnancy can occur. 2. With reversal of tubal ligation (its correction), pregnancy can take place, although the patency of the Fallopian tube shall remain doubtful unless HSG (Hystero-salpingography) is carried out and a dye is seen freely flowing out of the ends of the Fallopian tubes.3. Yes, the periods do stop once you are pregnant, even when you are not that young anymore. Moreover, the sure shot sign of the presence of HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) in the urine samples shall make a pregnancy test turn positive.4. Minor implantation bleeding can take place when the fertilized ovum gets implanted in the uterine cavity. But usually it will not continue for 2 to 3 months.5. The chances of pregnancy do not fall after 40. The only thing is that it becomes risky for the child, who may or may not be inadvertently afflicted by certain conditions due to late maternal age, like Down’s Syndrome.6. If your friend is really keen for having a child, she must first be real positive about it. Pregnancy can occur in all probabilities after the reversal operation, but the chances of ectopic pregnancy or abortions will remain. Once proper implantation occurs, then your friend must get the child evaluated by an amniocentesis, in which a small amount of amniotic fluid shall be taken out under ultrasonic or CT guidance and evaluated for any congenital abnormality. Hopefully everything shall be normal.
