How to get my iron levels up?
Q: I know this was asked once before, but it only got, like, 2 brief responses. I am giving blood for the first time this weekend and, for personal female reasons, I fear my iron might be low. It's historically been a bit low anyway. I am trying to eat beef this week and spinach but my stomach's been upset so I'm not really hungry. I do take a women's multivitamin with iron. What else would you recommend to make sure my iron's up by Sunday? Thanks for the answers so far! To clarify, I haven't been diagnosed as anemic since I was a teenager, but I fear my iron may be low right now and I don't want it to affect my chances of donating for the first time! It took a lot to psych myself up! :-)
A: I have an iron deficiency, and my doctor recommended raisins and molasses (so I enjoyed molasses cookies). Red wine was also mentioned, but I was underaged. The links below also has some good foods with iron for blood donors :)
how long will it take to get my iron level up?
Q: i have been told that i am anemic i am 33 weeks pregnant i was told my iron level is really low its 8 but it should be 12 how long will it take to get back to normal i dont want to have the iron injection im needle phobic am also having a few problems with the pregnancy which means i mite have to deliver early i have been taking my tablets now for 2 weeks will my iron level be normal if i do get to go to 40 weeks? im on ferrous sulphate 200mg please help someone.
A: I am also anemic and when i found out that i was pregnant i started taking iron tablets along with my folic acid and pregnancy vitamins, this helped for a while until about 35 week when it dropped down to 7.... i also HATE needles (",) but my doctor told me that i would need a iron booster shot. while it was painful it was all over soon. I just took it that it was the best thing for me and the baby at the time. Good luck i am sure that you will be fine and best of luck with your little one on the way. do you know if it is a boy or a girl yet?
full of questions today- iron levels?
Q: My son's iron levels were tested today and his level was low.How do I get his iron levels up to where they should be?ps. yes, tomorrow I plan on asking the pedi about it! he got tested at wic after he had went to his one year checkup!Should've mentioned, I can't give him anything with milk/egg whites/egg yolks. He's severely allergic to milk and deathly allergic to egg whites, mildly allergic to egg yolks. Whites make his throat close up, severe hives and severe swelling and yolks give him hives.
A: I agree with ''Alex's mommy''. Red-meats, especially liver are the best sources of iron, as well as green leafy vegetables and some nuts. Also, egg yolks. Other foods are enriched in iron, like baby cereals. You need to take in sufficient vitamin C to absorb iron, so lots of fresh brightly coloured fruits and veg, like oranges and tomatoes. One simple thing that might help is to go back to giving him baby cereal every morning for breakfast. Buy the iron-enriched ones and check the side panel to see how big a serving size is (probably around 1/3 to 1/2 cup.) If he doesn't like it plain, mix it with fruit. You can even make cookies from it; http://wholesomebabyfood.com/teethingbiscuits.htmPS: Anemia is just the medical term for ''low-iron levels''
