- can you take insulin shots in your stomach when your pregnant?
- Q: I am 22 weeks pregnant and haven't really considered that my uterus is moving and growing up pretty high now. Can I still take my daily insulin shots in my stomach, just farther up, away from my uterus? Or should I just move on to other spots? Thank you for your answers.
- A: As long as you can pinch the skin for your injection, you can continue to use your stomach sites during pregnancy. Late in pregnancy, it might be too firm to get a good pinch on, and then you'll want to switch to another site. Remember that insulin is absorbed differently at different sites, and pregnancy can make your blood sugars a little wonky, so check your blood sugar a little more frequently than you normally do to keep tight control. If you use a 5mm pen and don't pinch, then it's fine to use all through pregnancy. 5mm will never get through your skin, fat and muscle to reach the baby.
