Can daily spotting and pregnancy symptoms be caused by birth control?
Q: My baby girl is 13 months. When she was 11 months, I started my first postpartum period (really horrible). I had another period on my own five weeks later (lighter than usual), but I took a pregnancy test on day 2 before starting the pill because we had been unprotected that month. I have been on the pill for two cycles now and there have only been eight days I have not spotted or bled (five the first cycle, three the second). Light period in between too. My doctor made me try the second cycle and I have already called them back to consult (waiting for a call back). My question is: I know the pill can cause the spotting if the hormone levels aren't right (same pill as pre-pregnancy, but obviously my body changed). Can it also cause pregnancy symptoms? I have been moody, exhausted (as in, falling asleep watching tv/video games with hubby at 8:00 pm when bedtime is usually 10:00-11:00 and not being fully awake no matter how much I sleep), peeing during the night, having food aversions sometimes and eating a ton other times, gained 5 lbs in one month and been having headaches and migraines pretty regularly. All of these things happened during my first trimester last time, but I thought with all the spotting and still getting a light-medium flow period, I shouldn't be. I'm hoping the pill can cause all these symptoms as it pisses my husband off a little when I waste a test just to assuage my fears. Can this all be related to hormone problems from the pill?
A: This also happened to me when I was on the pill. I thought for sure I was pregnant. I was peeing more frequently, my boobs were bigger, I wasn't very hungry, I was moody etc. I had missed taking the pill one day, and what with having all those symptoms I just knew I was pregnant. But I wasn't. Spotting is very common when you're on the pill, and those other symptoms can happen too. Obviously, it's still possible to get pregnant on the pill, so you'll just have to wait and see.Hope this helped!
Is my light period a pregnancy symptom, or am I being paranoid?
Q: I had unprotected sex 3 times recently.[ Pull out method, aka. stupid method ] Towards the end of June (before my period) Beginning of July (the 7th) and a few days later (the 11th). My period came on the 1st and ended around the 4th or 5th.I really don't need lectures on unprotected sex, I understand the risks and all of that and yeah I was stupid..I would just like some advice on anybody's past experience. My period was or is supposed to come on the 25th, so it's right on schedule. I've just been really paranoid this month, because I don't have sex, or that much, often. I also am usually protected. I also noticed some spotting the day after I had sex, I think it was the 12th, and really weird cramping. I didn't think much of it.Lately though I've been having headaches, peeing more, my breasts hurt (mainly nipples), and I get cramps every now and then, even before my period was due. and have been all over-mood wise. These all seem like symptoms, but then again, I get frequent migraines. I'm also always really moody. The breasts thing, I know can be a sign of just your period coming but usually I don't get cramps and sore breasts till I'm already on my period, not before. That's just some background on what's been leading me to ask this question. So, my period was due today (it's 3:02am the 26th,so I really mean yesterday I guess. The 25th)I woke up around 4pm (I go to bed around 11am, I work nights) and went to pee and when I wiped I noticed pink blood, so I figured this was just the start of my period. I put a tampon in and went back to sleep. I woke up at 6 expecting to see a pretty good amount of blood because I'm usually really heavy the first 2 or 3 days. There was barely any there. Maybe a spot as big as my pinky nail. Didn't even cover the bottom tip of the tampon, just a little spot on the side. So, I put in a new one and went back around 10pm and still the same thing.. I'm at work now and I'm hoping the next time I go to the bathroom there's a good amount there but I doubt it for some reason. When I start my period, it's light, yeah. But after an hour or so, it settles in and it's heavy for a while. When I wiped the first time, it was pink.I guess I'm just wondering if Implantation bleeding can occur around the time your period is due, I've read that it usually happens a few days beforehand.I just need advice and answers from experienced mothers please...Mainly because I've done my googling. I've also been pregnant, before 3 times. I don't remember the first two, that far back on the missed period part, and the most recent one, I just didn't get a period.Anyways, advice appreciated, thanks.
A: Implantation bleeding, from my experience, actually happens a few days before your period would happen. I've heard of it occurring on the same day the period was due, but I've been pregnant three times and had implantation bleeding all three times. It was always before my period was due, and it was this way with my friends' pregnancies too. Also, from everyone I have spoken to about it and my own experience, implantation bleeding is usually brown, not red or pink. I guess every woman is different, but that's my experience. It's possible that your period is just starting out abnormally light - we all have a weird month every now and then. Also, it's common for our period to actually start a day or two before we actually notice it. It's just so light that we only know if we happen to use the bathroom when there's a little blood present. Maybe this is just the first time you've noticed this happening. You also described some other symptoms like sore nipples. If you aren't pregnant, you could just be experiencing natural hormone changes. Just because you're past puberty doesn't mean your body is done changing. Anyway, it seems like your period was due quite a while ago, so go ahead and take a pregnancy test to ease your mind. To me, it sounds like you aren't pregnant, just noticing little things about your body more because you're worried. But taking a test will let you be sure.
