Zumba

Zumba is probably the most amazing workout a person can get, in my opinion. I have been familiar with Zumba since I was about 13 years old and even though I never stuck with anything for too long at that age, I do remember that I thoroughly enjoyed it (even if it was simply because Beto was super cute!)…Now a lot of years later and 7 years of ballroom lessons on my belt…I still love Zumba! In fact I love it so much that I went and trained for 8 hours so that I could teach it.

For those of you who are not familiar with Zumba, it is a Latin inspired fitness program. It uses variations of Merengue, Salsa, Reggatone and Cumbia for the introductory routines; however you will also learn Bachata, Belly dancing, Cha cha and many more. Zumba is a workout that applies just enough dancing into it that it makes you forget that you are working out…For those of you who feel that they have two left feet, I can assure you that Zumba is not about technique, it’s about exercising and staying in constant motion…If you are unable to execute a move just like the instructor don’t worry, as long as you feel like you are getting a good workout and enjoying it, that’s all that matters! What sets Zumba a part from other aerobic classes? Zumba is designed to appreciate the music being played so the instructor does not call out amalgimations like they would do in a Step or Kick boxing class, instead they use hand gestures to and actual demonstrations to introduce each move. This technique allows the student to not only enjoy the music, but to also enjoy the workout.

Based off of my personal experience, I believe that Zumba is an essential part of an individual’s workout routine. It works out every part of the body and uses fitness variations of each move to focus on areas such as the core, biceps and triceps. It is aerobic and it is available in over 125 countries, which means that no matter where you go, you’ll be able to find a Zumba class…the most important reason though, is that it is fun and makes you want to exercise!
