X-Men: First Class – My Favorite Film of 2011

X-Men: First Class, the superheroes that most of us have grown up with, has given us another film. The twist is that this time, they are not their usual selves, they are in adolescence. I was surprised by the backgrounds of some of the characters; I was slightly taken aback by it, but the interesting storylines and tales of the adolescent X-Men make up for it.

For example, Dr. Charles Xavier is portrayed by the young actor James McAvoy. Dr. Xavier is seen in the film as a very intelligent, witty young individual who flirts with women as a hobby. He is one of the most intelligent, and likable characters in the film. The movie shows his entire adventure and how he came to be the founder of the X-Men. I found it intriguing the way that the characters were portrayed from a new perspective.

The entire film portrays all of the Mutant’s transformations into mutants, as well as each character’s past. It begins with a slow introduction to each character and then quickly progresses into a laser-firing frenzy. The way that each character revealed their powers to one another was somewhat corny, but it makes sense because the X-Men are portrayed as being teenagers. Hence, you can’t blame the makers of the film for having the characters seem a bit childish at times.

Overall, this would have to be my favorite film of 2011. While this year hasn’t been all that great in my opinion, the new perspective on the X-Men portrayed in this film won me over. We’ve all grown up with the X-Men, but how many of us have seen them as teenagers? I don’t think very many people have seen this perspective on the tale of the X-Men. Personally, I think more people should see this film. While the movie may not be the best X-Men film of all time, it does provide a fresh new viewpoint for fans of series.
