Wolfmother to Appear on ZZ Top Tribute Album

Back in November last year, there were reports that Wolfmother had contributed to an unknown tribute album. The news has been revealed in the last few days that the album is a tribute to Texan blues rock trio ZZ Top, due to be released in October this year.

The eleven-song collection, entitled A Tribute from Friends, is due to be released on October 11, 2011, and features covers from a wide range of artists including Nickelback, Mastodon, and even Wyclef Jean.

Wolfmother’s contribution is a cover of “Cheap Sunglasses”, a single originally released in 1980 from the album Degüello. The song will be the fifth track on the album, after Nickelback’s cover of “Legs” and before “Got Me Under Pressure” by Duff McKagan’s Loaded.

Wolfmother, who have just returned from their European tour, reminded fans and thrilled newcomers with their off the hook rauceous rock’n’roll show and even included a few working tracks that are currently being laid down in the studio where the third album from the quartet is being recorded. Sessions for the third album are taking place in the Wolfmother home studio with production duties in the hand of vocalist Andrew Stockdale who is looking to put the personality and creativity of the group all over the record by embracing a garage rock aesthetic.

For those who aren’t familiar, Wolfmother is an Australian hard rock band from Erskineville, Sydney. Formed in 2000, the group was originally a trio composed of vocalist and guitarist Andrew Stockdale, bassist and keyboardist Chris Ross and drummer Myles Heskett. Wolfmother released their self-titled debut album in October 2005, which reached number three on the Australian ARIA Albums Chart. The album was also a critical success, winning the 2005 J Award and 2006 ARIA Awards for Best Breakthrough Album and Best Rock Album. “Woman”, a single from the album, won the band their first Grammy Award, for Best Hard Rock Performance, in 2007.
