Will CM Punk Wrestle Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania 29 or 30 as a Heel?

CM Punk captured his second WWE Championship (Seven Times Overall) at Survivor Series against Alberto Del Rio this past Sunday. His win and ovation from the crowd revealed that CM Punk has become WWE’s top fan favorite in the WWE. The lingering question is when will we see Stone Cold Steve Austin and CM Punk finally wrestle each other in a match?

Fan Favorite: The first thing that people need to keep in mind is CM Punk just became the face of WWE. Despite his shocking promo in June 2011, he wasn’t completely over with the WWE Universe. CM Punk has always being liked by internet fans, but wasn’t over with the overall fan base of the WWE. Since the shocking promo, CM Punk has participated in 5 PPV’s (SummerSlam, NOC, Hell in a Cell, Vengeance, and Survivor Series).

Fans have had the opportunity to see Punk transition into the top guy surpassing Cena. Plus, fans that weren’t certain about CM Punk months ago have come to admire Punk since his huge push began a while back.

Compare and Contrast: As we all know CM Punk and Stone Cold are similar and different to in certain ways. CM Punk is Straight-Edge and SCSA likes to drink. Punk is outspoken like SCSA, and he is a great worker like Stone Cold. Unlike SCSA, CM Punk can only implement a substantial amount of change in the WWE. With the PG rating and WWE attempting to maintain a family friendly programming, CM Punk can only do so much. WWE was TV-14 during Austin’s time, and he had plenty of wiggle room to do or say what he wanted.

Top Guys Stay Face For a While: For example, Stone Cold’s rise as a fan favorite started in 1996, and he finally became a heel at WrestleMania 17 in April 2001. I know that storylines are faster in 2011, but WWE will wait a long time before turning Punk heel again. Like Rock and Stone Cold and, WWE will allow Punk to accomplish more milestones before turning him over. This will ensure that the WWE makes a lot of money and continues to build their top guys. Remember CM Punk has just made the transition to a face in the summer of 2011. It will be a long time before WWE turns him over again.

Stone Cold Injuries: The other thing that will hold this match up is Stone Cold Steve Austin. He hasn’t been in the ring since WrestleMania 19 in a loss against The Rock. Stone Cold hasn’t wrestled a match in almost 10 years, but it’s for a good reason. Stone Cold’s neck injury is very similar to Edge’s and he has admitted (in the past) that doctors have told him one more violent move could result in him being disabled or death.

When will the huge match occur: Stone Cold has had plenty of years to heal, but if his injuries are similar to Edge, than it would be very risky for him to step in the ring again. With this being said, I don’t expect Austin to wrestle his last match against Punk in Miami at WM 28 in 2012. Their match could occur at WrestleMania 29 or 30.

This will make since because Austin will get additional time to heal and it would make since by 2013 to turn CM Punk heel once again. By then, Punk will have accomplished more milestones as a face, and it would make since for him and Austin to finally wrestle each other at WrestleMania 29 or 30.
