Why Do Some States Protect Child Predators?

Do you know the difference between a child molester and a pedophile?

It’s much more significant than you ever could have imagined and why is that you ask?

Well a pedophile is only attracted to children whereas a child molester is attracted to adults but also uses children to satisfy their twisted needs.

In states like Vermont a sex offender who rapes a 5 year old girl that he knows, a family member for example is considered to be at a lower risk of reoffending than one who rapes a 5 year old boy that he doesn’t know. With that said the sentencing has outrageous disparities, the child molester is likely to get a lighter sentence and may even walk free and be ordered to seek treatment within the community, while the pedophile can get their maximum sentence tripled.

It appears that the concept of punishing some criminals for unspeakable crimes that can leave children physically and psychologically scarred is lost on the lawmakers. Where is the justice for the little girl whose insides are so damaged that she will never be able to conceive? Why aren’t her feelings taken into account after her terrifying ordeal? Once she has summoned up the courage to speak out and testify against her abuser, wouldn’t it be just if she at least didn’t have to see him walking down the street?

Luckily some states including Texas, Louisiana, Montana and Florida have harsh sentences when it comes to child predators. In Florida Jessica’s law requires a mandatory minimum of 25 years. In Texas an offender will get 25 years for abusing a child under the age of 6 and be eligible for the death penalty for a second offense. In California Chelsea’s law requires a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

These monsters cannot be rehabilitated; the attraction and temptation will always be there. Although opponents argue that “locking them up and throwing away the key is cruel” it means that they are unable to hurt anyone else and that is much more important.
